ive allways liked this trade: cat, mo, TE for al, cro, pollard new roster: yao-pollard cato-cro-spoon al-boki-ag jj-pike steve sign damon jones, add some vets (scott williams, steve smith) and we have a 50+ win team.
Which exits in the first round. The Grizzlies would have that team for breakfast. You're gonna ask Steve to have another go at being a PG with that team? You have no stable offensive source on that team, other than Yao, till of course he tires out and the playoffs come.
Sign Damon Jones. Trade Cato + Jim Jackson for Jamaal Magloire. Trade the trade exception and Maurice Taylor for Al Harington and Scott Pollard Trade Steve Francis/next years #1/Al Harington for Tmac/Grant Hill. Sign Eddie Griffin. Sign Roster: PG: Damon Jones/another signed PG SG: Cuttino Mobley/ Pike/Boki SF: Tracy McGrady/Hill/Boki PF Jamaal Magloire/Weatherspoon C Yao/Pollard 2nd round playoffs next year, championship year after. Book it!
Could someone be so kind, as to inform me who "Jamaal Magloire" is? That aside, Boki behind Pike and hill? If anything with those reserves as his only competition for minutes, he should be our sixth man in that roster. Hm, never thought about using T-mac as a SF. He does indeed do many things, rebound, assist, score and comming soon with JVG's help, the return of T-mac's D and shot blocking. But, I would hope, that even as SF of our team, he'd be instructed to score like the all star consistent SG scoring machine that he is. But, yeah, do like the balanced games of Cat and T-mac in our starting roster. T-mac could definitely serve as our point SF, with Cat and Yao as our 2nd and 3rd offensive threats. Haha, and Yao could share in those point center assists, with Cat and T-mac's inside out game. Love that idea, those three on the court at the sametime is definitely enticing. And I suppose Damon Jones would do as our PG, but if we, I don't know how, managed to have enough money to aquire Brent Barry with Hill aboard. I'd definitely prefer Brent.
There's too much wiggle room here. I don't know if there's enough server space to list my daydream trade ideas.
Sign Brent Barry and Damon Jones. Trade Cat/Mo/Spoon/pick for Harrington/Croshere/Pollard (Mo is flat-out better than Croshere, so Indy would have to take on Spoon's deal to dump Croshere in the exchange) PG Francis/Jones SG Barry/JJ/Pike SF Harrington/Boki PF Cato/Croshere/filler C Yao/Pollard While the Rockets would still be weak at PF, they will have several players who play multiple positions (Francis, Barry, JJ, Harrington, Cato, Croshere), giving them added flexibility. However, IF the Rockets felt comfortable with their PG situation (and that's a big IF), I wouldn't object to trading Francis for Brand. PG Barry/Jones SG JJ/Pike SF Harrington/Boki PF Brand/Croshere C Yao/Cato/Pollard Weak in the backcourt, but GREAT frontline. In the West, though, it's the bigs that rule.
Mo is flat-out better than Croshere? Not to Indy. Indy doesn't need MoT and they don't need Spoon. Both are overpaid, and both don't do play defense or rebound especially well. Indy could use Cato's services however.
Damon Jones and Eric Snow really don't fit into a JVG type system. Damon is more suited for an uptempo, running, less emphasis on D type team like the Bucks. Eric Snow is a good point guard to match up with a combo guard. In a Yao-centered offense, that means little, especially because he cannot shoot. If you want a PG, look for a Derek Fisher type player: can hit the 3, make the post-entry pass, play good defense (even if he does flop a little here and there), and lead the break if need be. I don't know what kind of trades the Rox are looking for, but I'm sure with our starting backcourt and some serviceable bigs in MoT and Cato being dangled, we're getting some more tantalizing offers than the ones being posted here.
I think Snow would fit into a JVG system. He's not a good shooter like you said, but he is a good, smart, pass-first PG. He plays D and has good size, knows how to get people good shots. I agree with Fisher, even though a Fisher/Francis backcourt would be too small. His shooting ability, his defense, his experience with Shaq, he would be nice.
I think Snow would fit only if Steve was still here. It would sort of be like Snow's Yin to Steve's Yang: controlled play, smart play vs. out of control, recklessness at times. With no Steve (with a trade) then Snow isn't needed. The PG in a Yao-centered offense should have 2 jobs: make the post-entry pass (or bring the ball up and pass it to someone who can make the post-entry pass) and hit the wide open shot should his man sag off of him. Snow can't hit the open shot, thus making him a liability on offense, much like Cato. I understand that being a pass first PG is a plus, and he's a smart crafty veteran. Still, there are other people who have the same skill set with a better shot that can probably be had (evn with the #55 pick of the draft.) On the other hand, Fisher would probably only fit if Steve were gone. His lack of size makes him a bad backcourt partner with Steve, and they both seem to take too many defensive gambles. If Steve is gone, then Fisher or Fisher-type player would probably be the best option for the Rox.
i never said this would make us into a championship team. i don't believe that we can become a contender by next season. what we can do is make a move to get better. im sorry this wasnt a trade for Tmac or brand....i doubt those will happen. yes i would keep steve another year, this time with a back-up with the best ast/to ratio in the league playing 30mpg (steve playes 36 and jj playes 30) we trade cat for al and we have no offensive source? al may average about 3ppg less, but steve will play more minutes at the 2. yao won't get doubled as much when we have a line-up of : yao, cro, al, jj, jones....if he did get doubled we have 4 3pt shooters there for him. how many more offensive weapons do the pistons have than that team does?
