This would be the move. If I remember correctly, Beijing's only competition for the 2022 winter Olympics was Almaty, Kazakhstan and that would've made a lot more geographic sense for a winter games than Beijing. I suspect that corrupt entities like the IOC and FIFA are finding it increasingly difficult to host lavish events in countries where there is some demand for financial oversight and due diligence. Don't forget that a lot of public anger in Brazil was directed at Dilma Rousseff because of the financial quagmire the country faced after hosting the World Cup and Olympics within two years of each other.

So these countries face a choice: only host the games in locations that don't have to build new venues (ie, not as much money for the IOC or FIFA) or look to autocratic countries where nobody can complain about the expense.

I'm unconcerned with their style of governing and more worried about the influence they wield in the world. The West is actively censoring everything from Hollywood movies to YouTube videos because they're scared of losing that CCP money. We need to get back to our core values and tell them to **** off. We saw right away the problem the Soviet Union posed but with the Chinese we just need to get our cheap goods so we look the other way.
