Christian Wood can play ball… he can score everywhere and when focused he can provide solid help defense. He is not max but the Rockets should take care of him after Wall comes off the books and Eric.
When is Wood going to put his stamp on a game and win it or at least fool us into thinking we can win it? Dude never imposes his will. He's just kind of...out there...Doing good things sometimes. He'd be a solid 7th best player on a contending team with a well defined niche roll as a rim running big who can knock down some threes. Asking him to do anymore means your team sucks and this team sucks.
I think you're selling him short there. I think he can be the 3rd or 4th best player on a contender. But he needs to be surrounded by quality players who offset his weaknesses and have a real point guard. He was looking monstrous for that brief stint with Harden. I guarantee if you threw him onto Golden State right now we'd forget all about his weaknesses. They make guys like Kevon Looney and Jordan Bell look good. And neither of those guys are anywhere near the player Christian Wood is.
He's the 24th highest paid PF in the league, that has to count for a lot. Green+whoever we get next draft+Wood could be a playoff team in a few years. Christian is the third best player type on a playoff team, that's great for his contract. Wood is also the current Rockets whipping boy, the cause of all of our problems. If he were better then we'd be a playoff team! Calling him the 7th best player on a contending team is a joke of a thing to say. I guess that makes Green the 10th best, right fchowd?
Wood needs to be moved and fast. Yes he has talent and could be a difference maker if placed in the right situation. I view him as a finishing piece to a team that is almost championship ready not a foundation player to build around.
He deserves to catch a lot of **** after the pout game he had a while ago, but the reality is that he’s a good player with a very reasonable contract. He is highly skilled. Period. Is he an MVP candidate? Of course not. Could he one day be an all star? Absolutely. And at 26, and with that kind of a contract, he’s extremely valuable. He needs to play better, but Silas also needs to use him better.
Looks like C Wood is on the lakers for another year and just had his second knee surgery of 2024 during September.
