I 100% agree. However, you would think a good coach could coach any players. If he has to recruit all new players to be a good coach then he's more of a cult leader right? Maybe that's all head coaches are.

But, But, But Top-5 Recruiting Classes!!!

    Still in the Program:

    2018 recruiting class: 52%
    2019 recruiting class: 46%

Those are the JR/SR who should be wrecking **** right now.

Gary Patterson as a defensive analyst is in play per Inside Texas. I don’t know what that means for PK if anything but sure hope Sark doesn’t hitch his wagon to him. There hasn’t been one redeeming quality about the defense.

Gary Patterson might be the next coach of Texas.

So Gary Patterson is going to go from uber-successful head coach for the past 20 years to ... defensive analyst? This seems like Texas dreamcasting.

Luster worn off, I’d venture. Patterson and the Texas AD, CDC, have quite a history as well.

Tell me more about their history?

I know Patterson wont ever be the HC at UT. Even though I would like this to happen. Heck, CDC should've brought back Briles or hired Kendall if he was serious about winning.

CDC was the AD at TCU. I’m assuming that’s his history with Patterson.

Nobody is “serious about winning” enough in college football to hire Art Briles. His name is mud and I’d be shocked if a public school, especially in Texas, hired him.

    Yep, He got scapegoated.

I just wanted to point out what needed to hapen if winning was really important on 40 acres. Unfortunately it's really not that important these days. Briles hiring not withstanding.

Regardless, there's no way a 20-year successful head coach is going to go somewhere to become a defensive analyst. D Coordinator? Sure, I can see that. But an analyst? Hell no.

My only thought was a money thing — there is no way Kwiatkowski is back next year so the DC job will be there Heck, I was shocked he still had a job this week.

Without knowing Patterson contract terms, this might be a way to not screw up whatever money he is getting from TCU and give him the ability to see the current personnel and prepare for what’s likely to be an insane transfer portal year. Basically, a runway into the DC role next year.
