I'd agree with that (at least on the offensive end, I'd be very hesitant to label Dwight as a low- iq defender) unfortunately, Wood doesn't have anything he does so exceptionally well that it mitigated the impact of the low IQ. At least with Dwight in his early career you knew if he got the ball under the basket that was a gimme bucket.
I think peeps forgot that Dwight was dominating in Orlando, like really almost Shaq like dominating on both ends. Made good outlet passes to them shooters. Wood cannot even be a real No 1 on the worst Top 5 teams of Alltime? Now, come on.
My biggest thing with Wood is that he is a Center yet can't defend like a Center. There is a reason why the Rockets thought they needed Theis. Offensively he is a dream for a young run and gun team. He would also do well with a team that has a pj tucker or Draymond. If tate could consistently hit the 3 or garuba improves and could hit the 3, Wood's numbers might go back. The question is how many defensive liabilities can this team afford. He definitely doesn't have the defensive instincts. Houston has alot of figuring out to do.
Howard had the mind of a kid, hence the baby mammas and had too much money too early. All he needed was the shooting stroke of Christian Wood and he would have been better off. Would not have fallen off that hard. Wood seems to be full of himself and has that chip on his shoulder no matter what. Trying too hard at times and too indifferent at other times.
Yes i looked up old scouting reports and articles and his history has not been positive, which leads me to think that the Rockets decision was quite risky and maybe based solely on that one season in Detroit with Casey where he had positive things to say about Wood in terms of Wood getting through some of his past character issues. Whatever the case they took a risk on a guy who’s had work ethics and character issues. Character, i want people to realize what this means and how important it is to have character in terms of being a part of an organization. Meaning teams want Someone doing what it takes on the court to support the team to win. Someone genuinely devoted to the game and has joy within the game. Contracts and money aside teams want players that put away their own egos and personal feelings in the interest of the team. This is not Christian Wood. Hopefully he gets it and change one day but his body language, play on the court and public comments have suggested that he has not thus far.
No coaching can change a player’s mind. Just as in a software company for instance no mentorship can change an engineer’s mind. Ultimately it’s up to the individual.
I think it’s obvious he’s not a franchise player, but he’s capable of playing so much better than he has been. He’s super inconsistent for where he is in his development. I worry about our coaching staff and player development. We need to see more developmental progress out of our young players. Tate is the only one from last year that looks like he’s taken a legitimate step forward. It’s still early but I need to see some player development progress. And I’m shocked that even as bad as we are, that we haven’t managed to win another game or two. We should all be watching Silas very closely.
Not sure why anyone thought he could be? When's the last time a guy who got cut by multiple teams and played overseas came back and was something better than a role player. Dude signed for like $10 million, why would he sign for that if he was a superstar.
Another what could of been….. In another universe we could have had prime Harden, healthy Capela, and Wood.
I thought he was the Center version of Starbury and a sprinkle of TSquid Terrence Williams. He can hit them like Stephen Jackson and Monta Ellis. Francis was pretty popular and I think a lot more well liked.
Funny thing is, during the period between late Dec last year and when he got injured in late January, he was playing really good basketball. His stats during that time were 23.6pts/10.7reb and a positive +/- I don't know all the reasons, but he's really regressed and it seems mostly attitude-based.
Wood is being played out of position. He’s not a 4, he’s a 5, but we have too many centers and Silas has no idea how to use them all. Not unlike having too many scoring guards (I can’t call them shooting guards) and playing Porter at the point. This roster is horribly imbalanced, and it isn’t any wonder why they can’t win a game. I don’t think Wood is a bad dude, but I do think he’s a little immature, and he can’t be happy with how he is being used. Someone needs to get moved, and it will either be Theis or Wood. Wood has way more value.
It's worse than that. Had we not done the disaster of a trade in the Westbrook deal, we could have used those assets to nab Covington and Wood. Paul Harden Covington Wood Capella
Yeah, you right. Not the best comparison. I was referring to how Dwight would get those defensive sec calls late into his career. Wood just comes off as a dummy to me man. I hate how Silas tries to run the offense through Wood.
