I had a realization yesterday. It’s like in the Matrix when Neo finally “saw” the code. I have figured out why I keep coming back. It is because this forum is like a friend. Not like a best friend but far from a casual acquaintance. I realize that I no longer individualize most of the posters in here. Instead I look at the threads as separate components of the same “person”. The threads have moods. The threads have emotion. When I lurk a thread it’s not like I am a voyeur of a conversation, instead it is like the whole of the thread gives me a pulse on what the BBS thinks about something. When I participate in a thread it’s like I am contributing to the whole, not just chirping in. I consult the BBS for opinions on my music or other music, much like I ask a buddy to listen to a CD and tell me what he thinks. I learn about what’s going on in the world of pop culture. I use the more interesting threads as show prep for the radio station. Sometimes the BBS will ask something of me in my area of expertise (whatever that is) and just like with a chum I will help if I can or at least try and point it in the right direction. On the occasion when I have met some of the posters I have always been pleasantly surprised. So my question to you guys is how do you view the BBS? And on a separate note… Wouldn’t you love to have the whole of the BBS, every thread ever written, on a DVD-R to use as a reference for things? Everything up to now that has ever been posted. Do any of you Admins know how much data that is in terms of Gigabytes?
This BBS is a place where Rockets fans from all over the globe can share news and info on the Rockets, sports in general, and just about any topic you can think of. The D&D section is where Rockets fans from all over the globe can yell and fling monkey poo at each other.
I find myself in discussions with friends and my responses are "I read this thing on clutch city the other day and ....." I love this website and I probably would have done something stupid and went to look for another job because I sometimes get so bored at my current one. But since I have you guys I can enjoy my day and get paid for it.
especially since he plaigerized it from the bbs desriptions. I consider this a place where a bunch of people that are damn near as weird as me help me keep up to date with all the little things going on in the world that I dont have the time to track down myself.
I love this BBS, I too almost see it as a friend. It's a nice welcome to the new day. I wake up, grab something to eat and sit down and read up on the BBS. I love this site.
i love this bbs to. do you al remember when clutch played us al and said that the site would disapear?? i was really afraid, more afraid then i've been in years. This site is great. Thanks Clutch Crew
I see it as a cult. Actually, I see it as a goup of friends although I've only met a couple of people here in person. People here are much more interesting than the slugs I work with, that's why I post so much. I can't imagine what work would be without this site. I'd be miserable.
I've been waiting for you. You have many questions, and although the process has altered your consciousness, you remain irrevocably human. Ergo, some of my answers you will understand, and some of them you will not. Concordantly, while your first question may be the most pertinent, you may or may not realize it is also the most irrelevant....
I take the opinions of the BBS more seriously than a Gallup Poll I tend to think of this as surveying the common man All walks of life on this here thing Rocket River
Me, too. I literally spend more time with you guys than my wife. I can't decide if that's really scary or really sad. Undoubtedly both!
i think of this bbs as one giant orgy. every time i reply to someone, its like im having sex with you. when you start a thread, and people reply with short comments, its like they whispered sweet little nothings in your ear and taunted you, and then left. but if they leave a long winded post and many people reply to your thread, oh yeah, that is where it gets good.
i meant to add, i usually stay out of the garm, as it is filled with STD's, and the d&d, as that is for people who like angry, agressive sex, and thats not my cup of tea.
I love the BBS because I can keep a finger on the pulse of my hometown from far away. The older I get the more sentimental I am. I also like that so many Rockets fans (even the Republicans!) have such terrific taste in music. It kind of astounds me sometimes. Maybe it's because I associate the Rockets with the gawdawful "are ya'll ready for the this?' HI NRG BS they used to pump out on the PA at the Summit.
