This is literally the most common sense thing but Silas is too dumb to do it and thats why he should be fired.
I am hoping it’s because it will be too embarrassing for Silas to be sacked in the middle of a road trip. He better be fired after this road trip. I am rooting against the Rockets until he’s fired. He made 1-81 actually look possible.
Because there are one or two of us fans out here who dont want to watch cra$&y unfundamental basketball for the next three years. Poor coaching begets poor habits with players that isn’t easily turned around in their most important developmental times of their careers.
Can someone crunch the data of how many teams roll out lineups where 3-4 guys on the court at the same time routinely have 3yrs or less of actual NBA game experience? One person in 5 makes a mistake - good teams will find it and make them pay...but when you have 3 or 4 young guys out of 5 out there making mistakes on the same play - it's a disaster. The question of how to measure Silas' effectiveness won't be answered in wins if you give him Gordon, Augustin and a couple of otherwise mediocre/inexperienced role players. Even our pseudo vets like Christian Wood barely have two season of actual in game experience in them(169 games since 2015 and only 70 as a starter). Check this out.... Augustin has 934 games of NBA experience (332 as a starter) - 11 seasons of games Gordon has 704 games of NBA experience (525 as a starter) - 8 seasons of games Theis has 272 games of NBA experience (132 as a starter)- 3 seasons of games Nwaba has 205 games of NBA experience (46 as a starter)- 2 seasons of games House has 170 games of NBA experience (92 as a starter)- 2 seasons of games Wood has 169 games of NBA experience (70 as a starter)- 2 seasons of games KPJ has 90 games of NBA experience (40 as a starter)- 1 seasons of games Tate has 85 games of NBA experience (73 as a starter)- 1 seasons of games Mathews has 84 games of NBA experience (24 as a starter)- 1 seasons of games KMJ has 59 games of NBA experience (8 as a starter)- Rookie Brooks has 31 games of NBA experience (5 as a starter)- Rookie Green has 15 games of NBA experience (15 as a starter)- Rookie Sengun has 14 games of NBA experience (2 as a starter)- Rookie Christopher has 10 games of NBA experience (0 as a starter)- Rookie Garuba has 7 games of NBA experience (0 as a starter)- Rookie ....so if the average "season" is 82 games, we can say Augustin and Gordon are the only TRUE vets and then we have Theis as a 3 year guy and everyone else on the roster has played less than 3 years. It's really no wonder we are as bad as we are. I would argue there is no other team in the league has this much inexperience on the roster....and the question becomes - does all that inexperience hurt the development of those guys if the quality/experience around them is so low. Those aren't coaching problems to solve, those are GM problems to solve. In short - it's hard for our young players to learn fundamentals playing in a team concept if everyone else with them is ALSO learning. One guy sets a bad screen, another guy misses a critical read, another guy forgets to box out - the sum of those mistakes is proven in our record. It's hard to for anyone on the team to thrive if everyone is just trying to survive the game.
I agree with this take fundamentally ..... BUT we have to realize that there wasn't a whole lot there to start last season , it was , much like this one a fishing expedition where we're looking for talent. So now we have all these young guys who need minutes , probably too many young players but ask yourself this - which of them are you willing to give up - that's a really tough question because they all have significant upside / potential beyond what they currently display. I don't want to give up any of them .... Sengun Green Tate Christopher Garuba Brooks MartinJr PorterJr Mathews Who are you willing to sacrifice now to insert another veteran ?? I think what they really need to do is move Jalen Green out of the starting group and give Christopher , Brooks & Mathews some of those minutes while holding Green responsible for his very poor play.
probably are. Just because of what they have done to the roster. stripped it right back to rebuild. Fans will get restless because of the low win total, but the Rockets organisation has set the roster on this path. Memphis are no pushover, don't know why you would use them as an example and OKC are getting better since we beat them. They started rebuilding last year and actual have a young star to build around. A guy like Silas has been put in a dead job. I think he would be under more pressure if the team were more experienced for sure, he probably wouldn't be coach anymore
My guess is it's because you didn't understand that losing was the objective. Yes. They're untouchable this year and likely next too. After that, when Silas's contract expires, anything is possible. But you guys are absolutely nuts if you think ol' broke ass Fertitta is going to pay for two head coaches at the same time.
You go with the guys with the highest potential ceilings - we have limited “assets” so we have to maximize our existing team by focusing on the lotto tickets with the highest possible yield. Green would be one of those guys - certainly he deserves more reps than Christopher and I like Christopher….but he is a solid role player at best and that doesn’t change the ceiling or floor of this team very much. We have to prioritize guys with a potential to be elite at something - Green, Sengun, Tate…maybe Garuba getting reps in the g-league….Brooks is just a classic specialist - you only use him situationally. Porter is the only one I’m puzzled about because he could turn into a decent player but I think we need to explore trading him if there is a market - he can score, but I think everyone realizes at this point he isn’t a facilitator
Sadly, I am rooting against them as well. Worst thing that can happen is a win and we suffer with this unwatchable garbage for the rest of the season and maybe longer.
I mentioned earlier that Fertitta sold Golden Nugget online for multiple billions. He’s loaded and no longer in finacial distress. Silas was an extremely cheap hire and can be let go. Even cheap Fertitta could just promote one of the suckwad assistant coaches like Lucas for little additional compensation. You gotta ask yourself if it’s cheaper to do that or leave 1-14 Silas and have a major loss in whatever attendance they actually get to go to home games.
Thank you for bringing this up - a lot of people don't realize he picked up nearly 3/4 a billion dollars in assets over the pandemic selling his online gambling division of Golden Nugget to Draft Kings. I'm sure he has pandemic debts to catch up on, but I think he still came out wayyyy ahead. ...the article for those who didn't see it - TLDR, Fertitta is no longer a poor rich man - he is a rich, rich man. https://www.forbes.com/sites/willya...et-online-gaming-acquisition/?sh=3e7079d05a18
I don't believe they'll perform significantly better with any coach. Not Pop. Not Spoelstra. Not Carlisle. Nobody. Our team is just really really really bad. If you go look at the thread about predicting the win total of the first 20 games, I was the the most pessimistic by far. I predicted a record of 3-17. Turns out, I was actually optimistic. I expected them to this bad and so I'm not surprised. It's on you guys if you expected this team to perform at a higher level than this. Half our team is 21 or younger. Only 2 out of our current 5 starters are actually starter level quality players. And Eric Gordon is the only person on the bench who is arguably starter quality. Good teams have a star or two and another 5-6 starter level players. We have no stars and 3 arguably starter level players in Wood, Tate and Gordon. How in the world do you think that's going to be a good team regardless of coach?
