I just found out about it, I didn't think it was possible. This is a home run signing. We need him to end his career here.
I personally don’t take this kind of “reporting” for much (since the word earlier today was an east coast team), but did see this. I think the guaranteed 50M had more to do with it.
Why would you say this? Aces are at a premium when it comes to trading for one. That's a premium price paid. IMHO Gotta pair JV with another ace.
I'm interested to see how Verlander does without Strom. I know he was great before Strom but still how much did Strom help him get back to what he once was.
Personally I don’t see another SP being a difference maker in the way that a Hader type player could be.
You've been saying you know nothing about baseball for 4 years now. I officially grant you full Astros fans rights and you know your stuff now!
They got to be AL champs by not doing stupid moves like what you are recommending. By the way fangraphs has him at 1.1 War. But if 0.7 is worthy of being released, there goes Javier. Kiss resigning Graveman goodbye. So long Maton. etc etc Soon enough we will find out which one of us is more in tune with Miss Cleo
Odorizzi wasn't always healthy, and finished the season throwing the best he had all season. Unless he really struggles for 2 months, he's not being released.
Yeah if he sucks he opts in but if he shows he's still good, he opts out and asks for more money or potentially he leaves and Houston won't be able to offer him a q.o. so no compensation pick. Hopefully he doesn't need the sticky stuff and he's in the running for another Cy Young .
Always felt pretty good that he'd be back because crane really seemed to want it to happen and there didn't seem a possibility that a team would offer more than the Astros were. I do feel like it is a bit of an overpay, but if he didn't have a QO attached, I think he would have got that deal on the open market. If he pitches well, they will look to extend him to 2024, before he has to make decision on his option.
Great sign for the franchise, was almost positive he would dip to a bigger market considering all the drama with him this season. Another thing is Crane didn’t pay most of that salary, insurance did. Who really cares if JV got big insurance for 33 million, not Crane
