Might be time to look at who's doing the hiring of the Head Coach. I'm an Aggie and enjoy y'all losing, but not like this. I sincerely hope Texas gets things figured out. The SEC looms and it will be brutal even under the best of circumstances. (as tonight showed us again...ugh).
Honestly Traylor is setting himself up nicely for something like this. Don’t think most people turn down Tech from a UTSA but when 3-4 high profile jobs are opening up every year, he could very well land the big one very soon.
Program is really at a crossroad right now. With Strong’s loss to KU, we at least knew it was over. I backed Sark even with the garbage that was being put out but losing to KU at home is beyond comprehension.
I do and think it should be done today followed by the rest of the defensive staff (minus Bo) after the season. Sark can’t sit idle like Strong and Herman did after year one.
We get to play Alabama at home next year, so that should be ... interesting. Perhaps they can put up 100?
Texas needs to go find a coach that is beating teams better than him, someone with attention to EVERY DETAIL - that Baylor coach for instance kicking the FG because he is aware of the tie - breaker being points scored.....THAT is a smart WITH IT coach. We hired a great guy from Tech as the Basketball coach....football needs to do the same, find a guy who is smart, aggressive and is beating better programs with less....like the Iowa State coach or some such. Sark was a poor hire, you don't hire from Bama - they have 5 star recruits everywhere, it is easy coaching there under Saban. Find someone that can run a program and motivate kids.....a young coach that gets it. DD
The season went from almost blowing out ou to losing to ku real fast. Urban is not doing too well in Jacksonville. Maybe he would be inclined to listen.
There is "hitting bottom," then there is hitting a new level of awful akin to football hell. When you have a history of arrogance, this season has to sting. The question is, can you buy your way out of this?
That was the theory behind both Strong and Herman. The reality is that the program has deeper problems than coach. I don't know what they are, but the Longhorns have recruited over the last decade better than any other B12 program. They've tried 3 completely different coaches and have all the same problems. Hiring a new hotshot coach isn't fixing whatever is wrong within the program.
The fans, donors, and 9.95 “journalists” are what’s wrong. The best thing for texas football would be people stopping basing their lives around it and attacking everyone in the program whenever they fart. also, Bijan will not play again this season.
I had serious doubts about Sark and Strong, but I really thought Herman was going to be god-mode for yall. How he flopped I have no idea. Like Brando says, it's probably a mix of insanely high expectations (not particularly unfair, however) and a 'too many cooks' problem. The ride Mack Brown took yall on from 2000-2010 was so beyond normal it may have just warped everyone's brain. Those types of runs come around once a generation, even for big time programs.
Herman was an ******* who couldn't get along with anybody. He also neglected the OL and the defense went constantly downhill his whole tenure, iirc.
Yeah, that "my way or the highway" stuff only works when you're winning. He didn't have to answer to hardly anyone at UH (by today's standards, even Fertitta was fairly hands off), but at UT there is probably a lot of glad-handing that has to be done, even moreso when times are tough. He ran the program here like a dictator and the kids largely fell in line, while at UT it seemed to really cause splintering and resentment. Either way, I always respected the skill of the coaching staff and thought they were the most connected to Texas recruiting as anyone. I'm still surprised it didn't work out.
