For a few of us we've been here awhile. My son was 1-ish when I initially joined. Still doesn't know about this site. Lol. But we should be able to show how our kids our doing, and the pride we have in them. Mine is applying for Masters at multiple places, including Rice, for Music Composition. Here he is doing a Wind Ensemble. https://fb.watch/9flVE-kYm-/
That is really awesome and totally worth bragging about. No sarcasm. What does he want to do when all the school is done? I have a friend who went this same route and is always traveling as a guest conductor and having his pieces premiered by college ensembles all over the country. It's a pretty sweet life doing what you truly love and getting paid for it. My boys are 10 now. 4th grade. Hard to believe. They are playing basketball again. They're not great but they have fun. I have them enrolled in School of Rock - one on guitar and one on drums. They are playing in a band now and have their big showcase in January. They'll be playing 4 songs. When I Come Around, TNT, Seven Nation Army and Yakety Yak Don't Talk Back (LOL). We practice every weekend with me on bass. They make straight A's in school and straight E's in conduct. They are reading on a 6th grade level. They are funny and sarcastic just like me. Okay, I'll stop now.
My kids are awesome, they're all nieces and nephews and cousins. I get to be fun uncle out at the ranches and then turn them back over to their proper guardians.
If you can give any Rice advice, I'd love it. We walked it a couple years ago with me. When I was his age, I had no idea where I wanted to go. He's such a grounded kid.
Here's the oddest thing: He has his girl. He has his talent. And he is content. I'm nearing 50 and I havent hit those. Went to my Mom and was told that my Dad was her second kiss ever! Think about that.
I absolutely love my boy, and I can’t wait to see him this Thanksgiving. It will be the first time I’ve seen him or held him in two years. It will only be the third time I’ve seen him since he was five years old. He just turned 16 in October. For those that don’t remember,I filed for custody of him back in 2010. His mom decided to marry the attorney for my custody battle and move him to Kentucky. Was the hardest thing I had to go through in my entire life. I can’t wait to see him again! I.D.I.O.T @Os Trigonum
My oldest is about to be 16. Nicest, kindest person I know. Super smart, pre-Ap classes and already has a few college classes knocked out. He’s very low key, loves to cook and wants to own a bakery even though he could kill it with a STEM degree. My 6yo is ridiculously smart. He’s in first grade and we have ‘fun’ doing simple algebra in our heads together. He’s one of two gt kids in his class. We had him tested for aptitude and he’s doing math at a late 3rd grade level, that he hasn’t been taught, in his head, so he has special math work brought into his class for just him to do now. He will probably skip third grade. He’s also ridiculously cute and I think I could be a stage dad putting him in commercials and tv shows. My 3yo is my clone. Looks just like me. Also smart but he’s crazy. Almost as big as the 6yo, maybe two pounds lighter. I think his hands and feet might be bigger. He loves cheeseburgers so much it’s comical. If you scare him he runs at you and tries to take you down like a spooked spider monkey. Im 98% sure I don’t have any surprise kids out there.
My ex remarried the day of my divorce and I spent 10 years in TN courts fighting for him. She wanted me to give up my rights and have the new guy adopt him. To her credit she always let me talk to him, so I've never been out of his life. He loves The Houston Food scene. It's honestly the main reason he enjoys coming here. That and my brother's farm. IF he gets accepted into Rice I'll talk about moving in, but I'll assume he'll want his own place. Would be cool for him to live here. Oh, didn't mention before. He's the one with the Goatee with the French Horn behind the Red haired girl.
Not bragging but my oldest(senior) and youngest (freshmen) sons are both at UT on academic scholarships... My daughter at PV( junior) ..... blessed that they didn't follow daddy's footsteps ( 11th grade dropout) ...
It takes two to tango and there’s always two sides to every story but you have to be a real piece of **** to justify being separated from your kid. So if you’re not that aforementioned piece of ****, the parent who is trying to take them away is the piece of ****. I feel for you guys. No good person should be separated from their kids. A child’s innocence is sacrosanct and should be preserved and nurtured for as long as possible.
My 7th grade daughter is in GT classes and made the A team for basketball. Dropped 15 points and only points for the team in a 25 minute scrimmage game. Other parents were saying that she's going to be in the WNBA. My 18 year old son is in Boston studying finance and business. He's killing it out there and having a blast. I miss him alot
my son is finishing law school and reportedly has a firm lined up after he graduates. he also was in his hs varsity bball team and holds the school record for most trippadubs in a game. but most importantly he finished xcom enemy unknown with the impossible difficulty.
My older daughter was born with transposition of the greater vessels and at when she was five days old had an arterial switch surgery at Lucille Packard Hospital at Stanford (the 20th person to have that surgery). She later rode hunter-jumper, played soccer, basketball, sang choir in her high school's award winning choir, and was on her high school's ROTC drill team. Graduated c*m laude from Sam and received her Masters in Homeland Security with honors. Works now as an analyst for DPS monitoring port security for the Port of Houston and gulf coast. My younger daughter played basketball for ten years (school and select), and in her junior year was recruited to play for a small private school as part of a "fab five" team) that just missed going to states, losing in double overtime against a much larger (numbers and size) school from San Antonio (my daughters stats: 29 points (including 6-7 from 3) 9 rebounds, 11 assists, 9 steals playing every minute of that double overtime game). Named second team all state for her school division. Broke her foot for the second time in her senior year ending any chance of playing for a non division 1 school. Now at Sam in her senior year where she made the Presidents list (one B prevented her making the Deans list) and hoping to get a position with Goldman Sachs. And getting married next year to her high-school boyfriend. Both girls were very active in NCL (my youngest was president). Both very active in charity activities and the church. When people ask me who my heroes are... I don't have to look far.
