I just got a notice in the mail yesterday that they would start charging me a monthly recurring fee for my long distance service... umm, beginning YESTERDAY!!! Great notice, huh? So I called today to cancel it, since I never make long distance calls. I am suddenly informed there is a $10 "service charge" to cancel my long distance plan. Utter bull****. Sadly, there is nothing I can do about it since I need SBC for my DSL. If I could get cable modem in my apartment complex, I would dump SBC faster than J Lo dumped Chris Judd.
Got that too. They made me sign up for some long distance crap, but that is if I use it. I use my cell phones for long distance. I had to get SBC for my DSL. Their phone service sucks.
I get crap in the mail from them offering me different specials. When I call them they say their service isn't available in my area. Idiots.
I just cancelled my land line all together last month. It's really not even neessary since boith my wife and I have cell phones. Free long distance and voicemail and we pay less for both phone combined than we did for the land line.
I actually work for a company that sells phone service and I hear about SBC doing things like this all the time. I couldn't switch over a woman from sbc because she had DSL on her phone line. The thing was she never knew she had DSL. Didnt even own a computer. SBC won't let us switch her to us because of the line with dsl and they kept telling her they would take it off her line so she could switch but never did. They knew she owed them money and they did not allow her to get her phone changed unless she disconected her service with them totally. Which of course they charged her for. They also knew that by her disconecting her phone line like that she would be with out a phone for a few days and also she would not be able to keep her old number.
Killed my landline almost a year ago, and I don't regret it at all. Listening to them trying to sell me more features when I was trying to cancel it was comical.
Has anyone tried Vonage? My brother just got it, and he likes it. Seeing as I'm paying like $80 a month or more for Verizon home phone service (damn females and their phones ), I might switch in the near future. You just can't beat $15 for phone service (without taxes!)...
I totally agree that SBC bites the BIG ONE!! I'm still waiting to receive 5 months credit for being mistakenly billed for someone else's SBC Dial-up account in El Paso, TX (and I'm in Houston)!!!! Every time I call to speak to a customer service rep. (only by title) they say to wait for next month's bill for the credit. Well it's been 2 months waiting now. Any suggestions from anyone? If it wasn't for the DSL I'd go without the land line completely...
Is there anyone here who hasn't had serious issues with sbc? In fact I have to deal with some billing crapola TODAY. Oh if anyone here hasn't had problems please share your secrets.
