Strom is great and I wish him the best in Arizona, but he wasn't a magician. The Astros' success with pitchers over the past 5+ years involved a lot more components (both systematic and human) than just Strom. And a lot of those components are still here in Houston. So there is little point in being upset in his decision, and it's unlikely that our pitching staff will suddenly turn into a dumpster fire next season.

And no, I don't find the whole "considering retirement" thing to be strange at all. It's normal for someone Strom's age. He probably truly considered retiring and decided not to when the opportunity close to his hometown arose.

I’m not worried about how successful Miller and Murphy will be. The Astros’ pitching philosophy starts at the lower levels of the minor leagues, so every pitching coach they have was trained in the methods Strom and the organization made successful at the MLB level.

I’m far more concerned with the organization finding a way to get Carlos Correa signed.

You must have missed my post where I said his wife indicated he still planned to work.

And Strom and Baker have a fine relationship.

At least it wasn't to an AL team or a contender.

No need to apologize. I'd worry more if you knew every post made in any forum. :)

That would definitely be creepy and border on stalking. Not cool.

I'd rather it be Arizona than Detroit...

Suppose AZ said you don’t have to travel with the team. Like the Clemens treatment. Why wouldn’t strom take that?

I have ZERO problem with what Daryl Morey did. He negotiated a buyout of his contract.

“I may just go lie on a beach in Mexico, but I need to enjoy my life a little bit. I haven’t had a summer in a long time. So we’ll see. I haven’t made a final decision yet, but I know I won’t be back as the major league pitching coach here. I know that for a fact.”

“I was home for, like, two or three days and got the itch again,” Strom said Friday.

    This.

Came into the thread expecting the usual conspiracy theory reaction and was not disappointed.

On the other hand, it is a reflection of the state of the human condition in the 21st century where people are realizing they are lied to constantly. Especially by the media. I myself have come to put some doubt in anything the media says.

Folks get paranoid when they cant believe what they hear. Paranoid people don't have stable belief systems.

    Just sayin'

Right, just because you're paranoid doesn't mean they're not out to get you.

His wife told a good friend of mine 2-3 weeks ago that he wasn't retiring... just moving on. He felt he still had more to give.
