    For me:
    1) Shirts: cool cotton golf polos; I can seriously go months without dong laundry ( of course I had to stock-up on underwear and socks too);

    2) Plants: esp. Japanese Maples. I have a relatively small yard but have almost 20 small Japanese Maples, and they require tender care in Central Texas heat. Awesome trees though.

    3) International and Micro Beers: don't really drink enough for this to be considered 'excessive', but I am compulsive about trying new beers. I have a few favorites that I keep on hand, but I find drinking the same ol' brew boring.

    So what's your weakness?

    I'm wanting to plant a few maples. How much care do the Japanese maples require?

    As for obsessive compulsions, I frequent the BBS *WAY* too often.

    Seinfeld - I watch 4 episodes every day (sometimes 6), even if Ive seen the episode 20 times, I still watch it from beginning to end.

    If you live in the correct climate, very little. In general, they require some mositure and consistent moisture levels and no commercial nitrogen fertilizers. Some trees require shade even in hospitable climates.

    Here in Austin, you will need:
    1) Harden the tree to our weather: I keep my saplings in pots on the East side of the house. I also spray the leaves with Cloud Cover and feed with seaweed to reduce the transplant shock;
    2) Amend the soil; our soil is too alkaline and too heavy (clay) so poor drainage. You may need to build-up the bed a little so the roots don't sit in water when it rains. Also, mix existing soil in with the amendments;
    3) Mulch heavily (but away from the bark), esp. if you built the bed up;
    4) Do NOT water the leaves when the sun is out (scorch!);
    5) Select the cultivar (there are hundreds) carefully (some options: http://www.metromaples.com/generic.html?pid=6 ). I have had a Viridis in a shaded pot and Bloodgood in the landscape for several years (they both perform well);
    6) Select the site carefully (no afternoon sun, even for those trees that they say can handle the sun! They don't mean Texas);
    7) A drip irrigation system on a timer would be helpful (v. easy to install);
    8) Water them w/ rainwater from a rainbarrel would be helpful (more acidic than our alkaline groundwater) but also not req'd (I don't have one yet);
    9) You may need to wrap the bark when young. I recently read that the bark may get sunburn;
    10) Use mycorrhizae when planting. Japanese Maples use it to help get moisture and nutrients from the soil (synthetic nitorgen can kill this beneficial fungus) http://www.mycorrhizae.com/index.php?cid=20 ;

    11) OR - Consider a Shantung Maple. Not a Japanese, but similar to the green leaved maples and extremely well-suited to Central Texas!

    Have you relocated yet?

    Stepping on lines. If my right foot steps on a line, my left foot must step on the next line, or if there are no more lines ahead, it'll have to step on the same one. :mad:

    My wife's OCD is rubbing off on me. When I leave the house now it's:

    LIGHTS LIGHTS LIGHTS
    looking around the front room to make sure that the lights are all off.

    then

    PHONEWALLETKEYS PHONEWALLETKEYS
    as I reach between different pockets

    then lock the door followed by

    CHECK IT, PULL IT, TURN THE KNOB...
    walk off two steps and then
    CHECK IT AGAIN.

    That woman is making me NUTS. :rolleyes:

    Cleaning.

    I vacuum, mop, dust, windex, 409, pine sol my entire apartment (kitchen, bathrooms, living room, dining room) every freakin' day. It takes a good 30 minutes of my day just doing that.

    And I live alone in a 1 bedroom townhome!!!! I just feel the need to keep it as clean as possible EVERYDAY! I totally feel gross sitting in the apartment until I finish my daily cleaning, so usually I do it in the morning after working out.

    I've gotten to the point where I think any small thing I see on the floor or the counters is a roach. This is due in large part that 50% of the time it actually is. My roomate is a slob and we live in the first apartment complex we could find (which just happened to be totally infested with roaches. We had a dry spell for a while, where they left us alone but the other day I opened up the dishwasher (I was out of the apartment for 4 days) to do the dishes (because my jackarse roomie never does) and there were 11 roaches having a party inside. Needless to say I don't eat at my place, and will be happy to leave at the begining of August. I don't know how much more I can take before I crack.

    I must be the last person to close my bedroom door. If I'm watchin tv and my mom or dad pops in to say something, I'll get up, open the door, and close it. I'm weird.

    I must have my feet covered when I sleep.
    I can't sit on the inside of the booth.
    I don't like it when people sit on my right.
    I don't like to go to the doctor or dentist in the morning.
    I CAN'T listen to my parents talk about sex.
    I'm a mouse grabber. (Techies will know what I'm talking about...)
    I don't like people touching my head. (bad manners in Asian cultures)
    I want to know what people want at the drive through before I get there.
    I get physically ill when my wife makes us late.

    F**kin' A! I'm WARPED. :p
