https://www.houstonchronicle.com/te...(Premium)&utm_source=t.co&utm_medium=referral Nice Chronicle article by Duarte on the job Sampson has done. That itself is nothing new for Sampson, who has spent the past five years reloading after losing key contributors — a group that includes Rob Gray Jr., Damyean Dotson, Devin Davis, Galen Robinson Jr., Corey Davis Jr., Armoni Brooks, Breaon Brady, Nate Hinton and, from last year’s team, Quentin Grimes, DeJon Jarreau, Justin Gorham and Brison Gresham. This is my favorite paragraph. That is four people from last years team, five if you include Caleb Miles. And we began the season ranked!
and after this year he's going to lose Carlton, white, edwards, and probably sasser. Which is 4 of his starting 5 and add in chaney. but next year should also be damn good with j walker, sharp, arceneaux incoming, coupled with who is being groomed to take over the baton with guys like shead, r. walker, and mark. Sampson always has the big picture in mind with this program. btw for folks wondering why he won't be playing much yet. Tramon Mark was supposed to go into this year in the starting lineup however has been out with a shoulder injury which is still lingering. So other guys will get there opportunity initially
Welp. This is brutal. We look awful. I know its just one game but Hofstra is missing their best player and they are still dominating the Coogs. The Coogs look really bad.
Yea, they might eventually be a good team but its pretty clear we are going to take a step back without Grimes and Jarreau
Nice win. I can't wait to see it. On paper it looks like Sasser was able to get to the line, which is important long term. As well as score. And Kyler got to the boards to maintain our tradition. And Taze must have bailed us out from the arc. It also looks like our bigs were not a secret sauce, yet again. It's been our classic downfall along with long spurts of dead ball. We shot the ball better though. Poor Free throw shooting could hurt us.
What a game. Definitely a work in progress this year when the coogs backup rotational players consists of freshman. The past couple of seasons there was no post game meetings. This is the first year Sampson is putting it in place because this team is so young 1st game of the season. A lot of what you would expect from a new team. Coogs will be fine and will be a top 10-15 range throughout the year. They’ll get better as the season progresses and they definitely need tramon mark in the lineup
This doesn't worry me at all. I'd argue it's a good thing they struggled to set their minds that last year's Final Four doesn't mean they can just show up and beat everyone they play. I'm certain Sampson will use that to make these kids better. That's what he does.
Definitely not close to final four material and probably ranked a good bit high at #15. It was just one game though and obviously Sampson knows what to work on.
Like I've repeatedly said. He hasn't change a thing with how he recruits since hes been here. Stars and ratings mean absolutely nothing to him period
