Your worst choice on this poll is the "generation." These sorts of awful events aren't limited to this generation...you can go back to a 1979 The Who concert in Cincy where 11 people died in a stampede of fans...hell, you can go back to the Khodynka Tragedy in the 1890s where at least 1,200 people died in a similar event at the coronation of Czar Nicholas II.

The boomer Facebook memes will tell you it's the generation...it's not. These awful events have been with us for quite a while.

The more I see about this the more I think the blame lies with the organizers. Yes there were unruly fans doing all sorts of drugs but that largely comes with the territory. Certainly fans should behave better but as an organizer of a massive event you have to consider the possibility of things going wrong and can't just count on the good nature of fans.

I think there should’ve been barricaded aisles toward the stage like in a theater. Allows staff and security to get to where they need to be. It was extremely under staffed though.

I got the life crushed out of me and there were more than a few bad injuries I saw… at a 311 concert way back in the day.

The issue was the venue and the staff. This show was at that building off of 610 in between gulfgate and the astrodome area. I think it was called the 610 arena. The building was trash and the show had almost no staff working. I remember thinking the floor was going to give way too.

But 311 is a group that is well known for being nice guys who are all about peace and love etc. But people can get hurt at even their shows when they play at garbage venues.

I don’t see Travis Scott doing what Fred Durst did at Woodstock. I think he likely had no idea. But it’s a reality check for artists that they need to be more careful about who they work with in terms of organizers and venues. I would tend to stay away from new venues and new concepts like Fyre festival types. Stick with Goldenvoice type of tried and true organizers.

Lol… I found it. Looks like it had a solid run of … 4 shows ever.

I actually do remember this and no one died. It wasn't nearly the the same. Gangs showed up at Run DMC concert and Run DMC doesn't rap about violence. This was about gangs. This was at the height of Crip and Blood gang confrontation in Los Angeles. It wasn't fans.

I remember hearing about it on the news but it wasn't the biggest deal. I was 10 years old. I don't know why it stuck in my head other than being a Run DMC concert who were a big deal to me at that time.

    Edit:

A NY Times article when this happened
