I agree that Herman needed to go, but the last thing Texas could afford to do was take another huge risk at the head coaching position, and that’s what they did. Steve Sarkisian was mediocre at Washington and embarrassed USC, and, yet, he fell upwards into the Texas’ job just because he served as Nick Saban’s OC for two seasons with a loaded Alabama’ offense. What’s going on is Steve Sarkisian looked like a genius because he coached offenses with significant talent advantages at Alabama, and he refuses to tweak his concepts to fit the lack of elite talent at key positions within the current Texas’ offense. Where are screens, rollouts, or play action passes to help make things easier on the QB/OL? He also could use constant misdirection like McVay/Shanahan use to throw defenses off? Before Bijan got hurt tonight, he could have used Bijan and Roschon Johnson at the same time, either with Bijan split wide or both together in a two-back set. He’s calling plays like he has Alabama’s talent, when he doesn’t. Hudson Card looked no better tonight than he did in the debacle at Arkansas. That falls squarely at the feet of Sarkisian.
That's the only time in the history of my life I've ever seen anyone use the Horns down with any type of flair or creativity. Bravo Ames.
I am mentally ready to go through the growing pains the next 3-4 years. After Tom Herman allegedly being the next amazing HC - I do not have much expectations for Sark one way or the other.
Football is still a game, and in college, coaches can get outsmarted - by opposing coaches, that is what is happening at Texas, where teams like Iowa State can run some fun trickery and UT sits there in Vanilla hell running the same 15 plays over and over. What we see, is that those plays work in the first half, then the other teams adjust, and Sark NEVER COUNTERS....you see the bubble screen run as a bubble screen all game long, you never see the outside receiver slip his block and run a fly pattern as the defense creeps up for what they think is a bubble screen. There is no secondary option on any of his plays, literally we are getting out coached by smarter coaches, guys who are outwitting Sark - why UT can't get a young SMART coach and build around him is beyond me. You don't go to BAMA to get your coach, they win because they recruit the best kids, you do what UT basketball did, you go to a small school that is beating the bigger programs and you get that coach. UT Football is a mess, and it shouldn't be, they have all the money and all the facilities, what they don't have is all the intelligence......in the end it is a GAME, and you win by fooling the other team and not letting them get comfortable - Sark is easy to scheme against, he has no counters or flare......and now players like MOORE are leaving because they are not stupid and don't want to waste their careers playing for this idiot. DD
They thought they did that when they got Charlie Strong. When that failed, they tried again with Tom Herman. This time they tried something different. And Sark's been around forever but he's still young for a head coach. It just isn't working out so far.
Isn’t that exactly what Strong and Herman did? Sark deserves the criticism but I’d pump the brakes a bit (no pun intended). Saban, Kirby, Dabo, Jimbo, etc…all took their lumps the first year or two and Sark will do the same. As far as attrition, it’s inevitable with regime change and I’m not going to lose sleep over losing a kid like Moore. Sark will need to hit the portal HARD and look into some staff changes.
