Huh? He WAS able to play all those minutes without slowing down, which is why JVG kept throwing him out there.

His rebounding for the playoffs- 12,5,10,20!,5. He shot 39.7% from the field and averaged 14.8 points. He averaged a steal per game.

Doesn't sound like he was dropping off to me! His percentages were down some but that is not surprising for a jump shooter in the playoffs.

But I do agree that his minutes should go down next year.

The key, though, is that JJ missed open shots/big shots he probably would have hit had he been averaging closer to 30, even 25 minutes. End of game 1, open 3 pters, jumpshots, etc. He suffered at the end of the season cuz of the massive time he logged.

I could not agree with you more. But considering who's doing the picking in the FA market, CD, you should expect more of the same - pickups of ex-kNicks and trash heap players such as Adrian Griffin and Piatowski.

    Roc Paint!!!! Yeaaahhhh Baby!!!!!

The other thread started by Pericles does a great job illustrating the kind of flexibility we have. But the most interesting thing about this whole summer will be how Yao ATTRACTS free agents to Houston. CD himself said something a while back about how free agents would come to HIM b/c they wanted to play with Hakeem. Competitive players in the league know that a regular championship contender more often than demands a strong center. And as luck..errr... I mean the lottery would have it, we have a great one in Yao.

T-Mac isn't stupid. Even during the season, he made mention of the need for Orlando to get a marquis center. I think he was awed by Yao especially after Yao roasted DeClerq for some 30+ points in Orlando. Any player who's truly competitive will want to play for a championship caliber team and we're the rising star folks. So as far as I'm concerned CD is in the driver's seat and not Weisbrod. Weisbrod has his hands tied and I think T-Mac knows it and is sick of playing for futility.

Welcome to Houston... land of opportunity.

    :D

    Bobcats angle for T-Mac

On Friday, the expansion Charlotte Bobcats will receive the list of players exposed by teams in the expansion draft.

The Bobcats have the No. 4 pick in the June 24 draft. Coach/GM Bernie Bickerstaff is trying to convince the Magic that some veterans in the expansion draft are worth signing and is lobbying them to trade down, working the McGrady angle. Fat chance, Bernie.

"With McGrady being there, they need somebody who can make a difference," Bickerstaff told the Charlotte Observer. "They need a couple of players who can make them a better basketball team . . . and I'm talking about the here and now."

while i am all for having three all stars on the same team.

you should be sage enough to know that if TMac truly wants to come to a competitive team and is going to force the Magic's hand... then there's is absolutely no difference between a package that centers around Cat Mobley and any package centered around, say Manu Ginobli. The only way that the Magic trade TMac to us for Cat Mobley and some overpaid big contracts is if TMac wants to play for Houston SOOOOO bad that he will absolutely refuse to resign with any other team. I don't think he is willing to jeapardize his professional career like that.

The one thing that I think keeps getting overlooked is Grant Hills contract and our big ass trade exception. That certainly sweetens the pot. That means that Francis and Cato and exception could get you McGrady and Hill. The Magic aren't getting a superstar in exchange for T-Mac. But you give them a chance to get a legit star (Francis) and get rid of the cap constraints and that's what makes us a frontrunner.

Bingo. Offering to take on Hill = done deal. The hope would be that a trade pushes Hill to finally give it up.

Still, reading the situation, it seems like McGrady's made up his mind that he's gone but the Magic are in denial.

His rebounding was fine, his shooting was way off, especially his 3 point shooting. He went from 40% on the season to 27% in the playoffs..that's a significant drop off, and a sign of fatigue, IMO.

Doesn't really matter though, the main point was that he can't guard NBA shooting guards 82 nights a year without gettting smoked, and he can't.

I don't think anyone overlooked Hill's contract. Magic are in a position to throw in Hill in any deal for the #1 or T-Mac, and if I was the Magic, I would make sure Hill is in those deals.

All teams know that if they try to deal with the Magic for the #1 or T-Mac, that they should be prepared to hear Hill's name in the talks.

However, the magic have very little leverage in this situation. If other teams balk at Hill's contract, and no trade gets done, then they are stuck with Hill and lose Tmac for nothing.

You're right, but Orlando and other teams (like us) will be expecting Hill's name. Plus, teams are so high on the #1 (Okafor, Howard) that most wouldn't mind getting Hill along with it.

I agree. Hill has 47.1M or 15M+ for 3 years remaining. No one in the league should be stupid enough to take that on. How many teams have 50M to just throw away? Dallas? Portland? New York Knicks? I can't think of any others. So unless T-Mac wants to go to one of those teams then Orlando will not be able to dump Hill with T-Mac.

Francis + Cato + TE for T-Mac and DeClerk & Lue. Not sure if salaries & the TE need to match up.

Then we should try and trade Cat for Al Harrington. Cat can replace Reggie Miller and weget their backup PF

    Houston
    Yao/DeClerk
    Harrington/Taylor/Weatherspoon
    JJ/Boki
    T-Mac/Pike/A Griffin
    Lue/Free Agent

We can't give up Cato, he's the pillar of this team.
