Now we wait for Correa to kick us all when we're down.

Carlos Correa did not have a good World Series, but again, why are fans so worried about how much money a billionaire owner (Jim Crane) pays an elite, homegrown player that actually wants to stay in Houston if compensated fairly? Also, please name a better, more complete position player on the Astros. Jose Altuve is the only one close, and Correa has him beat at this stage of their careers because his defense is better.

Yordan Alvarez is a great hitter but is still learning how to play left field and has a weak arm. Tucker is above average in right field, but he also has a weak arm. Yuli and Brantley are underrated, but Correa is better. A healthy Bregman is close, but Correa has done his work at a tougher defensive position.

Carlos Correa is also the guy that told the world to **** off when players from other teams took shots at the Astros over sign stealing and continues to do so when teams still think they are cheating. The team voted him their MVP this year, and Altuve called him their MVP after game one of the ALCS. He should have a statue outside of MMP for all of his postseason accolades, but if Crane lets him walk at age 27 because he’s afraid of years 7-10 of a contract when the Astros’ roster will have turned over by that time, he won’t.

Other than Jose Altuve, Carlos Correa is the one guy that should be an Astro for life. Crane needs to sack up and make that happen. It’s like imagining Freddie Freeman in anything other than a Braves’ uniform.

Finally, if Crane knew he wasn’t comfortable with an 8-10 year deal for Correa, he should have given Springer a big money deal for four or five years to keep one of them around.

The criticism of Crane was not making the call with either Springer, or Correa and going after them aggressively like he did with Bregman.

I completely agree. I can even understand making Correa prove he can stay healthy for 162 games this year and produce at an elite level before giving him an 8-10 year deal because of his previous injury-plagued seasons, and last year, he didn’t hit well during the shortened season.

However, Correa did those things you wanted to see. There is no excuse for Crane not making a legitimate offer to Correa immediately now that the season is over. He knows what it will take, and he needs to step up to the plate.

You do not let young, franchise cornerstones like Correa leave your organization unless there is no choice. Definitely not one that is a team leader on and off the field, and not one with the amount of playoff success that Correa has had in an Astros’ uniform.

Track record is not looking good to keep him of course, we let Cole go, they didn’t resign Springer, and they even didn’t give Morton what he wanted. We ended up resigning Bregman unfortunately and look how he is turning up. These decisions are bitting us in the butt every year. Little by little, they are losing the players that brought them success. If you want to compete every year you gotta keep your core players.

Hopefully Correa didn't wear his agents ballcap and declare that he is not part of this team in the locker room after the game

Gerrit Cole doesn't like being on the Yankees. Plus his poor performance in the Wild Card game. He didn't earn that contract that night especially.

Correa is gone and time to move on. Bring up our top prospects like Leon, or Peña to fill in at SS.

We have two homegrown SS that could be a difference maker in Leon and Peña.

Astros spend more then most teams. 194 million in 2021. That was only behind Dodgers, Yankees, Mets.

Offer Correa 6 years 210 million (35 million a season). If he turns you down, tip your hat and move on

Except here the team was, in the World Series again, one year after forcing a game seven in the ALCS. Slowly losing your core sucks, but that's life, and if you play it smart, then you have options to fill the holes from the players that go without an exorbitant salary to match.

Leon is not a SS. No one is going to replace Correa’s production either internally or through free agency. Astros have the money, he wants to be here. Pay him.

Astros would still have two open spots for Leon, Pena, K. Lee, Meyers, Siri, Stubbs to compete for.

This. We have the money, why not pay him? I understand concern around the likely years of the deal and injuries from prior years, but I’d rather retain him and use Leon or Pena as trade bait to bolster the rotation and/or bullpen.

I just don't see a scenario where a 10 year deal versus 7 year deal hurts us. After 2025, this team is going going to be blown apart. Tucker will be need more than 20 million to stay. Alvarez is going to need at least 20 to stay. Bregman will need at least 20 to stay. Brantley will be gone. Yuli will be near 40. Altuve will need to be reupped. That means a rebuild of the roster. Keep the band together as long as possible. Correa will be 31 at that point and still his prime. If we need to trade, we will have no problem doing so. If that means eating some of his salary, it still won't effect our rebuild.
