https://www.businessinsider.com/musk-sell-tesla-stock-if-6-billion-solves-world-hunger-2021-11 David Beasley, the director of the UN's World Food Programme, issued a recent plea to billionaires. He said $6 billion would help 42 million who were "literally going to die if we don't reach them." The world's richest man, Elon Musk, says he'll act if the UN could show the math behind the figure. The billionaire Elon Musk said he'd sell Tesla stock and donate the proceeds if the UN could prove that just a tiny percentage of his wealth could save tens of millions of lives. Musk was responding to comments by David Beasley, the director of the UN's World Food Programme, who told CNN's "Connect the World" last week that a $6 billion donation from billionaires such as Musk and Jeff Bezos could help 42 million people who he said were "literally going to die if we don't reach them." Musk is the world's richest man and recently became the first person in the Bloomberg Billionaires Index ever to have an estimated net worth north of $300 billion. The index currently lists the Tesla CEO's net worth at $311 billion, meaning $6 billion would be 2% of his wealth. Such a donation would still leave him besting the world's second-richest person, Bezos, by at least $100 billion. Both men's net worth consists largely of stock in companies they founded. But Musk is challenging the claim that the specific amount will solve the hunger crisis, saying on Twitter that if the World Food Programme could show its math, then he would "sell Tesla stock right now and do it." He also demanded transparency about how the money would be spent. Beasley responded to Musk by tweeting: "I can assure you that we have the systems in place for transparency and open source accounting. Your team can review and work with us to be totally confident of such." He also clarified that the UN World Food Programme had never said $6 billion would "solve world hunger," which is the wording Musk used on Twitter. "This is a one-time donation to save 42 million lives during this unprecedented hunger crisis," he tweeted. Beasley has been repeating his call to billionaires, asking them to step up to address world hunger. "It's not complicated. I'm not asking them to do this every day, every week, every year," Beasley said during his appearance on CNN. "The top 400 billionaires in the United States, the net-worth increase was $1.8 trillion in the past year," he continued. "All I'm asking for is .36% of your net-worth increase. I'm for people making money, but God knows I'm all for you helping people who are in great need right now. The world is in trouble."
What kind of governments can’t solve their own hunger issues with it’s citizens ? I mean Elon is indirectly solving hunger but providing jobs and increase wealth for stock holders. james harden is making sure strippers and their children have food on the table @Jontro michael Jackson saved Africa with we are the world But you losers hate him
I can sell my Tesla stock to help you non contributing members Nah just kidding @Jontro and I will make it rain and give it to people who work for a living Lazy bums
Yeah he has progressively exposed himself as a prick. At this point he almost has to donate the money or be exposed as an even bigger prick. I am curious at what point it starts to hurt his business holdings.
Dude if I had money to end hunger I would definitely Ask for something in return Like admin control of the D&D so I can randomly disable users and make non contributors have like a 3 word maximum per day for being cheap ass suckers Anytime someone wrote anything against comedy I would immediately change their name to Carl Herrera remove the word left and right and Democrat and Republican and ban everyone from Boston and Germany and China
I don't think he will either, but I do think that it is a mistake on his part to get into this debate, at least the way that he has. If he disagrees with the wording or the statement, then he needs to go about it a different way...... if he doesn't like the administrative way the UN hands out food, then he needs to come up with his own plan and finance it. I am not one to pretend to be anywhere close to the businessman or engineer that Musk is. He is the wealthiest man on the planet by a long shot and he works extremely hard. However, he seems to suffer social r****dation too often.
Terraforming and Colonizing Mars will solve world hunger faster than relying on "non profits". At least we can get rid a huge swath of people by sending them away.
You saying he would be non contributing ? that’s like 90% of the D&D @Os Trigonum this ain’t the money maker of the board
yeah but this board would erupt with celebration like the Ewoks after the Death Star went down if he bought the Rockets over Tilman
