DV just really creates a great atmosphere. He does well with dystopias...

Not even close. That mashup was horrific. The actors were good, if miscast and/or handed a beyond terrible script, but Lynch, an excellent director, should have never taken on that job. No amount of budget would have saved it, in my opinion.

I am so happy he took it, because we have some of the most bizarre sequences on film, legitimately ever, to look at.

Not a perfect film, not even close, but Lynch's failures are >>> than 98% of anyone else's successes, IMO.

Again, I know I am in the massive minority here, haha.

I'd also take Twin Peaks: The Return over any TV series ever, sooo... :D

The longer director's cut was a significant improvement ... which is why Villeneuve made it a two part movie, I suspect.

It did give us some unintentionally hilarious moments, though. My favorite has always been:

"Usul has called a big one! Again, it is the legend!"

Watched it on Saturday; I didn't know the runtime was so long.

The score and the cinematography was beautiful and the film has some intentionally funny parts like:
The fat guy flying across the room in the scene where the boy's dad is just nude across the table and the spit scene
. Every shot of Zendaya was like she was in a perfume commercial lol. For me I just thought it was beautiful but kind of boring and way too long. Not the movie for me but went on it with my ex

Do you mean the ‘still having sex when we’re drunk’ phase or the ‘we hang out with the same friends’ phase?

I enjoyed it and looking forward to the sequel.

Also a decent amount of memes are popping up for the new and old Dune.

Finally saw Dune last night and thought it was pretty good. The visuals were great and loved the overall design aesthetic. I like how they stuck mostly to the story but my friend got confused a few times because there was little exposition and she hadn’t read the book. There was a few times during the movie I had to explain to her what was going on and why.

I thought the acting was pretty good and like Chalamet’s Paul Atreides. I think there were a couple of spots where he overacted but I think he actually fits the description of Paul in the book better than Kyle Maclachlain. Oscar Isaac as Duke Leto was outstanding and Rebecca Ferguson as Lady Jessica great. Her Jessica I think was more vulnerable and nuanced than not the 80’s version or the Syfy miniseries.

I didn’t mind Josh Brolin as Gurney Halleck or Jason Momoa as Duncan Idaho but I don’t think they fit the descriptions of those characters from the book. Duncan Idaho is a great fighter but he’s not this huge muscle bound guy. He’s described as almost being a pretty boy. I would’ve liked to see someone like Kit Harrington (Jon Snow) in that role. Gurney halleck is described as being ugly with a big scar in his face. Neither josh Brolin or Patrick Stewart match that description.

those are minor concerns though for me as overall I liked the movie

You mean like Avengers 4 & 5 or Back to the Future 2 & 3 or others?

    (I know, those were sequels)
