I'm familiar with the family... Vernon used to live across the street from me. He was a cool guy, I remember when Rudy T was first hired, he actually entertained the questions I had for him. Personally, I just think that he was misunderstood. Bernie ------------------ Louisville Rockets my ass
Awwwww... a wuvfest. Doc Wocket, could you tell us more about chemistry and how it's applicable in this situation? You didn't seem to want to play 42 a while back even though chemistry demanded it. How is this situation different? No choice? Why hate on Walt but love on Mo? Are you intimidated by Walt's ability to actually outrebound Mo? Why does everyone compliment the 'fit' of Mo Taylor and Griffin together? That's truly pathetic, IMO. To me that sounds as if someone's saying "good thing femalex is so passive... she does really well to balance the dominance of malex". Griffin hides Mo Taylor's weaknesses. That's not a compliment for Mo Taylor... it's an indictment. The guy can't ****ing rebound. Since the wuvfest is so enveloping... will we see more wuvfest lineups? Will the team run fastbreaks holding hands? Will FA acquisitions always be based upon wuv? It seems to me that Francis wuvs Webber more than he wuvs Taylor. Is Rudy aware of this? Will Taylor give a wuvtown discount? I mean, hell, if the team doesn't expect professionalism he shouldn't demand a professional salary right? Flowers and butterflys and baby strollers. Wuv. BTW, will you write sweet wuvthings about Mo Taylor once he turns into Cato? I guess that's an unfair question... Cato actually played an amazing game before his big contract.
Look at the date Timing. You know what else happened last year? Patrick Ewing was looking for a 2 year deal of 10 to 12 million dollars a year, Payton was satisfied with Seattle, Phoenix was excited about Jason Kidd, and Jason Williams and Chris Webber were ready to rumble with the Kings. Times change, situations change. Why would he ask for the max after having a down year? And why would he want to re-sign with the Rockets if they couldn't offer him the max? ------------------ "Win if you can, lose if you must but always cheat!" - Jesse Ventura [This message has been edited by RocksMillenium (edited June 30, 2001).]
Another thing I have to add, if Mo Taylor is so set on supposedly getting the max, why aren't the Rockets pursuing Chris Webber and a ton of other players? I'm pretty sure that if Mo Taylor wanted the max he would be off the Rockets wish list. And if he wanted 9.5 million dollars he would also be off the list. ------------------ "Win if you can, lose if you must but always cheat!" - Jesse Ventura
I'm not taking sides, just asking a question to those of you bashing Taylor. If the Rockets pursue Webber and are unable to sign him, do you have in mind a legitimate alternative to signing Taylor, or are you just pointing out how much you hate him? If the Rockets don't land Webber, I'd like to know a better move they can make besides signing Taylor. I'm not challenging, just want to know. ------------------
"If the Rockets don't land Webber, I'd like to know a better move they can make besides signing Taylor. I'm not challenging, just want to know." If the Rockets didn't want Mo, or for some reason he didn't want to return, I would expect them to re-sign Dream, slide EG to PF, and start Walt or Langhi. Might be able to sign another FA, but I doubt it. ------------------ Who needs teachers? I can learn my own self.
Simple....the Rockets are done pursuing free-agents.....they're going to stay "within the family". I couldn't be more pleased....unless of course they find a couple of good role players at a bargain. Forget Webber. We don't need him. We don't want him. Good riddance. I'll enjoy kicking his ass and whatever team he decides to sign with. We've got the pieces. "Have I not here the best pieces to win this easy match played for a crown?" Bill Shakespeare We have what it takes. May take time. But we've got it. Bring on the season. ------------------ Gascon
I have no problem with Mo Taylor at all. I think he does all of the little things that are needed for the Rockets to succeed, and he'll improve each season. However, I think that when he cashes that paycheck, it needs to be consistent with his role. Luckily, with a few exceptions (ahem... Cato, Price, Maloney), the Rockets tend to get what they pay for and then some. I can only hope that Cuttino inspires Mo to take a reasonable salary that gives the Rockets some flexibility with other free agents. If all of that happens, count me in with Doc on the Mo Taylor bandwagon. I like the way he plays... extra rebounding would be icing on the cake for me. ------------------
"Screw the charges that he takes, he should be a shot blocker!! " -I'm sorry, but Taylor does not take an inordinate number of charges. His individual defense is at best average, but likely worse than average. His team defensive ability is nonexistent. "MY GOD!! If he could just get two more rebounds a game, he'd be the ALLSTAR everyone wants! " Uh, no he wouldn't. Taylor has a good outside jumper and is good for impressive dunks and can at times put the ball on the floor and create. But let's not make excuses for his rebounding. He is a PF that averaged under 6 REB a game last year. That is beyond pathetic. I hate to say it, but Maurice Taylor is basically a soft player. "Griffin hides Mo Taylor's weaknesses. That's not a compliment for Mo Taylor... it's an indictment. The guy can't ****ing rebound." -Agreed. Or play defense really, not at a high level. Also, one of Griffin's biggest strengths his first few years will probably be his ability to run the break with our superathletic backcourt. His opportunities to get out and run will be a lot greater if we had a PF who could get 10-11 boards a night. You can't count on good REB from the C position unless Hakeem is back and healthy. -Still, I do want Maurice Taylor back for next year. For the right price. He is worth about $4.5-5.5 MIL a year IMO. If he asks for the Max or anything close to the Max, then the Rockets should wish Mo good luck in Detroit. They could always start Kenny Thomas at PF or slide EG to PF and then start the Wizard for a year. There are other options. ------------------ Get Cato out of there...
Say that again. http://bbs.clutchcity.net/ubb/Forum3/HTML/013524.html BRING BACK MO!!! Mo is a key to the Rockets going to the playoffs...believe it or not. ------------------ Anger is a weed. Hate is a tree.
Doc Rocket sez: "WE NEED MORE STARS!!! WE NEED MORE STARS!!! Fortunately, Rudy T disagrees with you naysayers. It's all about chemistry!!" Wrong. If this was true Rudy would not have moved OT for Drexler in '95. Remember of course that the 94 team won it all (where the 2000 Rox didn't make the playoffs). If this was true he wouldn't have traded Horry, Cassell et al for Barkley. Remember that team had great chemistry, had won TWO titles, but they couldn't beat the Sonics. If this was true Rudy wouldn't have traded for Pippen, because adding more STARS is certainly not on Rudy's agenda. After all we already had Dream and Barkley. Wouldn't want to upset their chemistry. If this were true he wouldn't have traded for Franchise or Griffin because he doesn't want to acquire more STARS. Doc, I'm afraid you are preparing yourself for the fact that we are not going to GET Webber. So you are all too willing to believe the "we'd rather just sign our own FA's" line from the corporate PR machine. If Rudy T could GET Webber, you can bet he'd take him because he (historically) gets STARS whenever and however he can. ------------------
My take is that the story about the Rockets not being interested in Webbe means one of two things: 1. Webber will see his options dwindlning and be forced to negotiate with the Rockets quickly. 2. They know they don't have a shot at Webber (i.e. he doesn't want to play here) and they're trying to put a positive spin on it. Doc Rocket, what do you think is a fair starting salary for Taylor? ------------------
Ok, these moves were done to help the team at the time. What Doc is saying is right now the Rockets have the nucleus of the future. Adding another would be pushing it. The Rockets are going to sign there own people because they feel this team will develop into one of the best. Also, it is not safe to tell Doc he is wrong because what he tells us is true never "WRONG". ------------------ Stevierebel
If we signed Mo to 2 year contract starting between 4.5 and 6 mill, would that be so horrible? That would give Mo some $$$ now, and give him 2 more years to show he can be our starting PF, not to mention give us his LBR. For the price of C-Webb, you could get Mo and Jerome Williams, or take Outlaw off Orlando's hands, and have room to spare. ------------------ "I think alot of people find Cato's game to be very offensive." -aelliott, comparing the offensive skills of Kelvin Cato and Michael Olowokandi
<FONT SIZE=6><P ALIGN="CENTER">I WOULD WELCOME WEBBER!!</P> <P ALIGN="CENTER"></P> </FONT><P ALIGN="CENTER"> </P></BODY> </HTML> All I'm saying is - Juwan Howard (Was) .......... $16,900,000 Shawn Kemp (Por) ............ $11,720,000 Zydrunas Ilgauskas (Cle) .... $10,130,000 Bryant Reeves (Van) ......... $10,110,000 Mitch Richmond (Was) ........ $10,000,000 Rod Strickland (Was) ........ $10,000,000 Kenny Anderson (Bos) ........ $7,520,000 Matt Geiger (Phi) ........... $7,515,840 Tyrone Hill (Phi) ........... $7,300,000 Kendall Gill (NJ) ........... $7,000,000 and please don't disect every rebounding average for every freaking player on this list. Would I pay MO-T the max of $12 million a year? NO! Is he worth $12 million a year? NO! Is Webber worth that to our team? NO! Is Dream in his prime worth it? YES! All these Webber lovers, and remember I like Webber I just don't want to sleep with him like some of you do, won't play the 5! Let's see...we need....a 5? That's right! So do you say, 'OK Mr Webber, whatever you want to do will be best for the team!' Screw that! Re-sign the family, including MO-T at a reasonable price ( That's Rockets reasonable not WalMart reasonable! ) and then add some FA's - maybe Mark Jackson or Nazr Mohammad or whoever. Add some size for defensive swarming purposes...unless you guys think WE NEED MORE STARS!! Everyone has a style - Rudy's is to RUN YOU INTO THE GROUND!! It's not going to work every night I KNOW!!! However, before you make the move from Fishtank Cleaner to GM, understand that they know what they're doing! If MO-T had a bad attitude, was a sorry cat, a loser, and just sucked ASS, THEY'D CUT HIM!! Another thing that's funny is all you WORLD CHAMPION HISTORIANS talk about about the good ol' days, and how there was chemistry then but we traded it...LALALALA BUT, if you remember and think real hard because it came at the beginning of the bandwagon ride for some of you, THE ROCKETS SUCKED AT REBOUNDING!! THEY WERE LAST..or close to it! WE NEED REBOUNDING AND STARS!!!!!!!!!!! WE NEED STARS!!! WE NEED STARS!!! By the way, Walt is 30+, Taylor is younger than Franchise and Cat! ------------------ Wait, there is another...
You know what Doc, I like your straightforward posts A LOT more than the cryptic ones, the humor value is much higher. Do you think we have a decent shot at getting Nazr out of Atlanta? Also I gotta say when I saw that Rockets game 1 with the Magic in the finals, I was reminded of how horrible our rebounding was. Remember Nick Anderson missed FOUR free throw's in a row, the reason he took the 1st set of FT's was b/c the Rockets couldn't get a rebound, and the reason he got the 2nd set was b/c the Rockets couldn't even rebound the 2nd ft miss, then they almost didn't rebound the 4th miss. Our rebounding is actually somewhat respectable when you look back to the championship days. ------------------ This post contains no smilies, you must judge my seriousness on your own... Here we go again... ------------------ "Do you have a patent on stupidity, or do you simply attempt to extend its bounds?" -- Gascon asking NYKRule to talk a little bit about himself...
Also to add to this, after watching that game, you know what brought us back in that game and eventually won it for us? A running/attacking offense (Clyde with his afterburners) combined with incredible help defense from the likes of Horry and Elie. These 2 things combined with great outside shooters. We have the athletes with the afterburners in Francis, Mobley, and now Griffin (maybe even T-Mo). We are oozing with offensive explosion in Mo-T, Francis, Mobley, and now possibly Griffin. We have the makings of a great transition game. What's missing? The lack of... err... the desire to play ball-hawking defense which would allow for steals, blocks and turnovers that ignite the offensive afterburners of a fast-break offense. If Doc Rocket is saying we're not getting Webber, that's fine, but I hope we have the defense and the shooting to revisit the glory days. ------------------ "Do you have a patent on stupidity, or do you simply attempt to extend its bounds?" -- Gascon asking NYKRule to talk a little bit about himself...
Forgive the 4 month discrepancy, must have thrown #3 in with #5 by habit, but the fact that someone would look that up just to post one line to put me in my place is flattering nonetheless.... GIMME WEBBER or GIMME DEPTH!! ------------------ Wait, there is another...
