I don't like that one bit. If we re-signed Correa then we'd have Altuve and Bregman until 2024 (and hopefully longer) but only Gurriel through 2022. Yuli moved over to 1st from 3rd so I don't see why Pena couldn't be looked at there as well. What if Bregman leaves in 3 years, it would be nice to have this lineup locked up for the next 3 years at least and continue beyond.

Also, Brantley won't stay past 2022 so an outfield spot will be open. Of course we could use both Meyers and McCormick/Siri starting, but any one of those guys would be more expendable than Pena.

There is a unique situation where we have both Pena and Pedro Leon (two 23 year olds who both play ss) to think about. So far Pena has the more experience to be moved up next year, so that may factor into a lot as well. Who would you keep in this scenario?

That may mean the Astros are more comfortable with not trying to extend Correa for too long and losing him. I can see why the Astros thought 5 years because our entire team would be out of contract by then under their current status and who knows how long and effective Altuve will be in 5 years.

If you keep correa you prolly only have the money to keep 2/3 Bregman /Tucker/yordan

and Like you said we will have to replace Brantley and yuli sometime soon too .

I’d move yordan to first and hope that we have a ready OF prospect .

Pena and Leon appear to be our two best positional prospects and good option for getting a lot of low cost WAR...

that being said , if other teams see that value and you can get a needed pitcher it could be worth it to move them .

90% of non-game Astros threads have morphed into Correa threads, it's a season-long thing so don't bother fighting it now.

Recovery from flexor tendon surgery is usually 9 months. If Lance isn't healed by June/July he needs to get the surgery otherwise it will run into next season as well.

On paper the drop off from McCullers to Javier/Odorizzi is probably only about 1.5 wins but damn it feels a lot bigger than that.

Hard to understand why Lance didn’t get surgery sooner after the offseason started and he realized he wasn’t healing. Now he’s lookin at potentially missing the entire season.

Probably because if he had the surgery in November he's missing the majority of this season and doctors told him it will heal.

I am skeptical that he will play this season.

Same... if he isn't pitching by June they need to shut it down and get the operation to save next season.

Looks like Lance is going to be out half the year or done for the year. Hoping that's not the case.

so Lance will be out till at least All Star break if all goes well? More delays and out for season?
Doesn’t sound like he is close to ready to play ball this year.
Disappointing, hopefully he will be ready for the playoff push later this year.

If the PRP treatment works, he should be back in May/June. Otherwise he will probably need surgery and be out for the season.

I don't understand when McCullers said he took the ball "two days early" last postseason. He was on full rest in both starts (and extra rest for his first). Guy balls out, but he's fragile.

I think he just misspoke or forgot that the off day in that series was gone after the rain out. He probably had around an 18 hour notice that he would start game 4 so his in between starts routine would have been out of whack. Seems like this might have happened anyway at some point. Bringing pitchers back sooner in the Divisional Round may have cost the Astros two World Series. Verlander wasn't the same after he pitched on sort rest in 2019 and we lost Lance after the Divisional round last year.
