But looking from the videos of 60s and 70s, the defense was
weak even in the finals. The tempo was slow and there were
a lot of white players. A guy as atheletic as Amare Stoudmire
would dominate the league then. You know, at 7'2, 275 lbs, Wilt
surely isn't that strong by today's standard. Players are much
    better conditioned today.

Also, the season is much longer. 82 games + playoff take a
huge toll over the players. I guess the Chinese Basketball Assoc.
might be comparable the 60s in terms of defense, tempo and
length of the season. And the 2002 Yao dominated CBA
    with 34 pts 21 rbs.

i think i'd take those 5, too. and i'd probably have to take jordan's (ugghhh) 32/8/8/3 season as the best. i mean damn, that's just ridiculous to have to carry that much scoring load and still get 8 assists and still be great on defense like that. that guy just had too much damn energy.

the amazing thing about hakeem was that his mvp season was probably only his third best statistically. 92-93 he was like 27/13/4.

4.59 blocks probably won't be topped any time soon and considering he played in all 82 games the total blocks from that season really probably won't be topped anytime soon.

You don't think Wilt, or other players would be bigger, stronger and faster growing up with today's technological advancements? Imagine if you put their skill sets (fundamentals) in the athletic players of today.

I said I would not debate this, but come on. I am assuming you consider Hakeem a great player, no? He was around 250-260 lbs. So add 2-3 inches and 15 lbs and you have Wilt. How can you say that he would not be strong enough? People forget the physical beast this guy was. He could jump (Conference champ in high jump at Kansas) run (Conference champ in 200 m at Kansas) and overpower people. People compare Shaq to Wilt, but it is inaccurate. Wilt was not a lumbering beast. He was an athletic man beyond compare. There is a rule in the league that says you cannot be behind the bucket and shot over the top of the backboard. This rule was put in because of Wilt. Early in his career, he would be behind the goal and simply jump and drop the ball over the top of the board and into the goal. Unstoppable. And a side note, they played 82 in Wilts day too.

Not to mention I know at least one season he didn't come out of a game for a single minute. Talk about stamina!

your talking about wilt right. because i think i have read that before also. that is crazy to think he could do that. he wasnt a little guy either at 7 ft. or whatever he was he was out there the entire time.

amazing. i think people were tougher back then.
