I’ve had some whisky and I’m ready to stake my claim. Check this thread — I’ve been pro-Mobley for a long time. I think he will be a very, very good player in this league. And I also now think Green will be a star.
@DaDakota any word on who the starter on Green's AAU team was? Guy could probably have scored 60 against the Celtics last night.
Yeah, that was the bet exactly. You don’t pass up on a 7 footer with all-around skill if you don’t hope to get, not a star, a superstar. @Clutch talked about this on his podcasts. All the sandbagging by the JG fan-club trying to lower expectations was disappointing. Zach Lavine? Nice player, sure but I would not pass on Mobley for Zach LaVine, the risk-reward is not worth it. We want a superstar, last night was a good first payment.
LOL @ someone thinking all #2 picks should be labeled "superstars" - couldnt be me! Keem em moving! This is fun!
Once again it is shown that it is absolutely stupid to make definitive statements or conclusions about rookies with three or four games of their first season. But the stupid thing is that there are fans who are more interested in proving that they "were right" than in enjoying the progress of our rookies. We're building a team to be really competitive in a few seasons, take it easy folks.
No sensible or rational takes are allowed. You must knee jerk yourself into a corner around here and then double down when you are wrong or attack a different player until your original take can be argued again. ------> /s (you are unequivocally right by the way!)
Truth. Picking any player selected in the first 5 picks to succeed in the NBA isn't something to brag about. Now if someone had said "Chris Duarte is going to blow up and be one of the top rookies coming out of the gate" during the draft, THAT's something to brag about. Duarte: 20.3 ppg 45.8% 3PT 40.4% FG% 5 rpg 2 apg
Didn’t he go lower in the draft because of his age. That might also explain why he is starting out more consistent. I for one really liked his game and thought he would be great mid to late pick.
I think you're right as he's 24 years old. I've been following him since he lit up Charlotte for 27 points in the season opener. He's regressed a bit since then but he has the size and shooting touch to be a serious contributor for the Pacers this year.
So does Marvin Bagley 3, Jabari Parker, Derrick Williams, Hasheem Thabeet, Lamarcus Aldridge, Emeka Okafor, Darko Milic, Stromile Swift ETC ETC.. and these were just #2 picks going back to 97 (was just checking out whom Jalen Green was going to be compared to when you posted).
yes, I don’t think you get what this discussion is all about. Trae Young, James Harden, Carmelo Anthony, Pau Gasol, Deron Williams, Brad Beal, Joel Embiid these are all superstars picked up #3 in the draft, that vastly outperformed the #2 pick before them. This thread is about whether 2021 will be the same or not. Many people here think Mobley will be on this same list. He may very well be, but JG may even outshine him, making the Rockets decision look solid. In other words: if Mobley is the next Gasol, JG is the next LaVine —> bad choice. if Mobley 8s the next Gasol, JG is the next Kobe —> good choice. This is what is being discussed here. Pay attention!
Soothsayers are funny! Soothsayers knee jerking after 3 games?? COMEDY GOLD!! Imagine pining for players who didnt want to be here! Sad.
Pau Gasol in Memphis is about as impactful as Lavine in Chicago. I don't even know what you are trying to say here. I guess if you pair Lavine with an all time great he will also have multiple championships
