your tax dollars funded Covid development.

NIH admits US funded gain-of-function in Wuhan — despite Fauci’s denials

    It’s another Fauci flub.

The National Institutes of Health has stunningly admitted to funding gain-of-function research on bat coronaviruses at China’s Wuhan lab — despite Dr. Anthony Fauci repeatedly insisting to Congress that no such thing happened.

In a letter to Rep. James Comer (R-Ky.) on Wednesday, a top NIH official blamed EcoHealth Alliance — the New York City-based nonprofit that has funneled US funds to the Wuhan lab — for not being transparent about the work it was doing.

NIH’s principal deputy director, Lawrence A. Tabak, wrote in the letter that EcoHealth’s “limited experiment” tested whether “spike proteins from naturally occurring bat coronaviruses circulating in China were capable of binding to the human ACE2 receptor in a mouse model.”

The lab mice infected with the modified virus “became sicker” than those that were given the unmodified virus, according to Tabak.

“As sometimes occurs in science, this was an unexpected result of the research, as opposed to something that the researchers set out to do,” Tabak said.

Gain-of-function research refers to viruses being taken from animals before they are genetically altered in a lab to make them more transmissible to humans.

The admission from the NIH official directly contradicts Fauci’s testimony to Congress in May and July, when he denied the US had funded gain-of-function projects in Wuhan.

Exactly what it sounds like. The whole story about a virus escaping its Wuhan prison just to wreak havoc all over the world is just idiotic. People actually believe this movie magic nonsense.

Neat rhyme. It's pretty funny how that's used as a legitimate strategy politics

We shouldn't play around with enhancing virus capability given the danger. Making up things and lying isn't helpful.

1- NYPost said NIH admitted to Gain-of-Function in the letter. That's false. There is no such admission in the letter. The letter said this:

"The research plan was reviewed by NIH in advance of funding, and NIH determined that it did not fit the definition of research involving enhanced pathogens of pandemic potential (ePPP) because these bat coronaviruses had not been shown to infect humans."

2- People jumping on the CDC funding killed because of this *new* revelation is false. The letter said this:

"It is important to state at the outset that published genomic data demonstrate that the bat coronaviruses studied under NIH grant to EcoHealth Alliance, Inc. and sub-award to the Wuhan Institute of Virology (WIV) are not and could not have been become SAR-CoV-2"

What the letter is saying is that EcoLab failed to report their finding as they are required to do so. If EcoLab is hiding something, we need to get to the bottom of that and serious people would do so. This isn't a game and making it a game is what slows down finding all the facts, having people trust the findings and progressing to a safer future.

Yes enhancing a virus ability is dangerous but to understand how viruses work to develop treatment and anticipate what the next pandemic will be I can see how that might be necessary.

Hah someone actually read the letter.

NIH has funded offshore gain of function research before, but what triggered Fauci was the insinuation the research he approved at Wuhan directly resulted into the “manufactured virus”.

Rando is still sleazy in saying (through interrupting) that was not his intent during the hearing, yet he sticks behind the gain of research line of inquiry…meaning he cowardly wants to implicate that line of research as guilt by association to the COVID-19 Wuhan lab conspiracy theory.

Sounds deliberately confusing with a smegma of chickenshit and chicanery, and that’s why Fauci was pissed.

The first sign it was misinformation should have been the citation of the new york post. The second should have been basso citing of the new york post. And the third was referencing rand paul.

Maybe I'm just an idiot, but I still cannot decipher this conspiracy theory you guys led by Rand Paul, are trying to project.

Why cant you just come out and say the F-ing point?? Are you trying to say that Dr. Fauci engineered a pandemic in order to get Joe Biden elected? Are you saying that Dr. Fauci is really a Chinese secret agent? Like what is the freaking point you guys are trying to get to with your batsh$t crazy conspiracy theories???

The US funds research around the globe on viral research. The Wuhan Lab was a viral research lab.... WOAH what a coincidence!!!!! Must be a deep state conspiracy theory. At least 9/11 truther and JFK conspiracy theories had a point they could articulate. Hell Ancient Aliens episodes can articulate a F-ing point.

At this point it's apparent that a lot of people have latched to their identification party and have chosen to only accept information from the sources that feed their own personal narrative. No one is being persuaded and no one is open to being persuaded. The country is so divided over information and information sources that no one knows what the truth is and a lot of people don't care about the truth, cnn could have half the country wearing butt plugs if they wanted to. As long as the media and the politicians are consistent in putting out conflicting information they are then free to do whatever they want and will have unwitting citizens actually defending their bullshit. The politicians and the media won smh. Nothing will come of this, it'll be talked about only as a conspiracy in the mainstream

Does the article in question provide evidence for a lab leak theory? It’s not terribly difficult for people to look at certain claims and check to see if they follow from the evidence provided.
