I don't really mind him playing well, in fact I'd like everyone to play well. You've missed my point.
The problem is that most of us fans are thinking short-term results, so we end up having these one-game reactions. It happens even to the fans who know they need to think long-term but end up getting swept up in their emotions during a game. If a player has a great game, he's hyped up as an All-star being praised all night as a potential franchise player. If that same player has a bad game now he's seen as average at best and overrated. And Lord forbid if that player has 2 or 3 bad games in a row. Now he's trash, worthless, when can we trade him?
There are some good players he can play off of. Markkanen and Allen. He is right there where he belongs IMHO. The player has to know where he fits best. I never liked Christian Wood but have a go at him.
LaMelo Ball rookie year preseason: 9, 5, and 4 on 26/27/75 shooting splits to go along with 4 turnovers a game LaMelo Ball’s 1st regular season game: 0 points, 3 assists, and 3 turnovers I can imagine what CF would’ve been saying about him after his preseason play and scoring no points in his 1st game LaMelo Ball’s 1st regular season game in his 2nd season: 31, 9, and 7 and only 2 turnovers
Anthony Edwards rookie year preseason: 11, 4, and 2 on 29/25/88 shooting splits to go along with 3 turnovers a game Anthony Edwards’ 1st regular season game: 15, 4, and 4 on 5-12 shooting Anthony Edwards in his 1st 36 games pre-ASB: 15, 4, and 3 on 37/30/81 shooting splits I can only imagine what CF would’ve been saying about him…definite bust for sure that can’t shoot, playmake, or defend Anthony Edwards 1st regular season game in his 2nd season: 29, 6, and 3
Exactly. Patience is the key here. Of course, this is Clutchfans - not exactly known as a bastion of patience.
Jalen Green’s first NBA game: 9/4/4 with 1 steal on 4/14 FG and 1/6 3P Michael Carter Williams’ first NBA game: 22/7/12 with 9 steals on 6/10 FG and 4/6 3P Trade Jalen for MCW. Threepeat.
I just find it funny that people are acting like they already know for sure how Jalen Green’s rookie year will go based off some preseason games and game 1 of the regular season if these people kept that same energy for Edwards and LaMelo based off their preseason games and start to the season, they would have been laughably wrong about both Should we already deem Suggs a bust? He has been absolutely atrocious since game 1 of preseason. Some of the main ones constantly attacking Green were talking like Suggs is the best in this class leading up to the draft.
It still amaze me how much we expect from 19yr old rookies! Wonder what OP was doing at age 19? I was a freshman in college working retail. Give Green time
KPJ has had “proof-of-principle” flashes, but he was pretty bad last year: no discipline, no ball security, zero defense. I’ve said here: the KPJ/JG backcourt was gonna be a disaster. If you wanted a minimum at least of NBA competence, we should’ve had Wall/EGO start and have the young’uns pick up their spots here and there. Many here were hyping them up and slandering the old pro-s. that’s fine but for now we’ll have to watch a terrible product… It is what it is. The front office made a decision to throw them into the fire, so let’s see. How they respond to the nightly beatings, will they "get it”, will they fight through it, or will they cower and retreat is going to determine a lot about this "backcourt of the future".
The problem is and was all John Wall did last season when he had the rock was either shoot really bad mid range shots that bricked, or force drives into a crowd, fall and complain about no foul. He didn't run the offense either, or even attempted it. Felt like he had a chip on his shoulder to prove he wasn't washed. He would have those 5 for 25 nights and we lost almost every game anyway Even if KPJ doesn't work out, it shouldn't be Wall to fill his place.
You can tell most of this board has not been used to a rebuilding Rockets team. No patience from a lot of y'all
