well, it doesn't matter if he was joking or not. He said something offensive to people, he apologized for it, so let's move on. Everyone deserves one mulligan at least.

Yes absolutely. But maybe that's because I have a friend circle that is incredibly right wing and now magically love Dave Chappelle and have sincerely hated trans people for a long time.

nobody at the concert was offended, it was the people who saw the video from the concert that was offended.

Like if you were watching p*rn and then somebody from church saw that video and told the church group that p*rn video is bad.

He's talking to his audience and his audience is not the offended audience. the audience knows what hip hop shows are.
this was a hip hop festival in miami with like 30K people in the crowd

Ok, I think this is honest and really gets down to the point. I also have a certain friend circle that is incredibly right wing, and they also magically started loving Chappelle when he blew up with Chappelle Show. I feel like this is why Chappelle quit the show, because it was mostly those people when he looked out.

On the other hand, we can't become jaded and cynical by these people. I truly do not believe this is what is happening with the current trans thing. I am only one person, but I laughed my ass off at all of these Netflix specials, and I'm not transphobic. I have a few trans friends that love it, and I have a few I suspect might not like it as much (the ones who typically victimize themselves).

Chappelle is pointing out how ridiculous all of this is, because that's his sacred duty. He's doing his job and doing it better than maybe anyone ever.

Here's a video with some quotes from his friend's family. Remember, it was the woke, victimy, loud part of the trans community that caused this:

Just because you don't get it, doesn't mean he's punching down. You keep assuming everyone is as outraged as you, and it's just not the case.

When he made those Jew jokes (I'm a Jew), I didn't start speculating on how many people in the crowd were antisemitic, I was too busy laughing. There were even people in the crowd yelling "Free Palestine!", and he scoffed and rolled his eyes at them, because they had missed the point.

Nobody beats up anybody over just one piece of media content. It's the acceptance prevalence of a type of content over a long period of time that does.

What gets lost within these discussions is that Mark Twain was the first ever "stand-up" comedian and his sets were more compelling than deliberately funny. This art form was built on personal truths in the form of stories, not chicanery. Saying something isn't funny doesn't mean it's not great comedy. Dave is older, more introspective and is digging deeper to explore the feelings he has towards his subject matter. I'm not a fan of a lot of his current takes but in this special he's articulating the depths of his personal insecurities towards the trans community. He knows they are his blindspot, and possibly his kryptonite. What I saw is a performer taking swings at an unhittable pitch and, for the most part, fouling them off.
He's still the greatest ever to do it.

As an aside, consider this: If Dave was actually born Daphne this all could be just a huge misunderstanding.

The transgender community is making a huge mistake in calling Chapelle transphobic. It will make them seem as a privileged group above mockery and that will only make people reject them more vs accept them.

While the transgender community sees as hurtful mockery from Dave Chappelle, they miss what he is really doing - making it mainstream to be transgender by putting them at the same level as everyone else. In his jokes about transgender people, he is also delivering a message of acceptance and the ridiculousness of movements to limit their rights. He uses humor to rail against bathroom bills for instance.

It's a shame. Dave Chappelle is an ally to the trans community, they just can't tell who their friends from their enemies are.

I watched it, and am perplexed at how people cannot comprehend simple sentences with simple words.
The line went something like that:
“In our country you can shoot and kill a N—r, but you better not hurt a gay persons feelings

civil rights are not all equal, I’m sorry.

The right to life is superior. In this country the number of black people dying untimely death is unacceptable, whether in the hands of police, or due to many others factors, the life of a black American is valued less than the life of any other citizen in the OECD. The right to not have your feelings hurt comes waaaaaay after that…

DaBaby got his concerts canceled because of some random crowd hype banter
    he lost real money
he then 'apologized' way later, and obviously it was not sincere because it was about the money lost.
but he didn't have to apologize for any hip hop banter at his concerts because these stupid idiots don't understand that a rap concert isn't a charity church concert for little kids.

    it's a rapper at a rap concert
it's not FARM AID or LILITH FAIR

I have a question about sincere vs non-sincere.
The history of civil rights is, you know, about “rights”. Tangible things. it was never about making other people to think certain way and making sure they reeeeeally think certain way sincerely, and not just saying they are thinking a certain way.
In fact there has always been some satisfaction, when a right is won, to shove it a little bit in the ass of your opponents, knowing perfectly well what they are thinking. Like ordering your gay wedding cake from a homophobic baker. Basically, "yeah we can get married, b****, I know what you’re thinking but you can’t do anything"
Since when the civil rights movement become a thought control movement? Now we have to make people think and say certain things and we want to make sure they are sincere…
