Yeah, I'm almost relieved to hear this. Obviously I want him fully healthy the entire postseason, but we can win the ALCS without him. Remember, he would've only pitched in Game 3 out of the first 6 games.

There must be some GM conference somewhere in the off-season where they all learn how to comment to the media.

Is there any reason why they won't say it now or is there still a chance he pitches? Maybe as a relief pitcher or just as an opener? Also can't they just have him on the AlCS roster but replace him since he's injured? Or do they have to play and get hurt in the AlCS to make a sub?

If he's on the roster for ALCS then designate him onto the IL...he's ineligible for the WS

Also forgot to ask, if he pitches in the World Series if they make it of course, is this a risk for his long term health? Better to have him healthy long term but less odds of winning or risk long term health for a chance at a World Series?

I don't think they'd do anything to jeopardize his long-term health. Lance is here for a long time, and they consider him an investment. Absolutely no chance they run him out there if they think there's any chance it could impact his career moving forward.

They won't waste at least 3 years left on his contract (about $55 mil) just for him to pitch in the WS and jeopardize his long term outlook.

Just have to have the others man up and step up

I would agree. Astros should have enough data to figure that out.

Not to mention Urquidy already has a phenomenal road start as part of his postseason resume, so at least he's got a track record of success in that situation. I think it's a no-brainer at this point to go Garcia in Game 2, and Urquidy in Game 3.

So who's the game 4 starter? Greinke or Odurizzi?

I'd say Grienke with Odorizzi on the roster as the piggy back.
