As far as the roster, Stephen Silas played 15 players. Rookie Daishen Nix, second-year guard Khyri Thomas and the Rockets’ two-way players, Tyler Bey and Anthony Lamb, did not play. The Rockets will have to make their first cut today when they add Sekou Doumbouya long enough to cut him as part of the plan with the trade to get a Nets second-round pick. The player cut, likely from those that did not play, was not likely to make the team, anyway, But the Rockets will have just 14 players (excluding the two-ways) because of the roster spot held by John Wall and they played 15 in the first preseason game. If they cut one of the two-way guys, they could put one of their young players on a two-way contract to open the roster spot for the Doumbouya move, so that does not offer much of a clue. Dante Exum would seem to have a difficult time making the team given the minutes that will go to others at his position. But he played well, especially defensively, in training camp and got enough of a run Tuesday to think the Rockets wanted to take a look. Either way, the first move will come earlier than expected. Given the unusual situation with Wall holding one spot, the next moves will be even tougher.
Hollinger’s 2021-22 Houston Rockets preview: Lineup, roster, prediction, is this the core to build around? https://theathletic.com/2879985/202...-prediction-is-this-the-core-to-build-around/
The problem with this team is that it's kinda dumb. The only smart players on this team are Sengun and Tate. That's it. Everyone else has vegetables for brains. I think Green can get there but he can't be playing next to Wood and KPJ. Seeing what I'm seeing I'd trade Wood and EGo for Simmons and run Simmons/Green/Tate/Sengun/Theiss with KPJ/Exum/Martin off the bench. Green absolutely needs someone who can handle the ball. Ricky Rubio is doing that right now for Mobley and will work wonders for his development. KPJ just can't do that right now.
Who then? I get that the kids need PT but they need a vet to show them the ropes like CP3 did for the Suns.
IDK.... Hopefully Wall does more than wave a towel or sulk around. I just don't think adding a questionable locker room figure with questionable work ethic (Simmons) is the right answer.
Neither Sekou nor Foster were making the final 15-man roster. How many guards to the Vipers have, assuming the Rockets keep Christopher or Brooks around the big club for much of the season? Hard to imagine anyone having a problem with gaining exclusive G-League rights to a player the team likes.
Nix is not making final 15 either so Vipers bound. Looking more and more like Armoni is in same boat. Porter, Green, Gordon, Augustin, Christopher, Exum all likely in final 15. Nevermind Wall, who is just an empty roster spot. 7 guards are not all playing, a few will go down to Vipers for spells. Former 15th pick should be more valued than UDFA like Foster or Lamb. Maybe it's just me.
See Clutchfans, the other games were all just bullshit. This game will be the real deal and if Theis continues to look like ass, or KPJ/Green continue acting young, or Wood keeps looking he doesn't fit, or EG plays (@Reeko ), then and only then, should you start b****ing. Your b****ing has not been justified up to this point.
For a G-LEAGUE roster spot? Sure. But the Lakers signed Doumbouya to a two-way contract. Not much the Rockets could do about that. And I would rather have the 15 guys making this final roster than Sekou (as intriguing as he is). If they didn't have so many young guys to develop already, I'd agree with you. But these are new times.
Agrred. Rockets have so many young players its not a big deal. But I'd still have tenderd the 2 ways to Doumbouya and Brooks, rescinded the 2 ways for Nix and Lamb. Both Nix and Lamb would then have still been eligible to sign with Vipers in this scenario, correct?
