Yep, you play what’s in front of you at his point…not look down the road until you get to that point. Not having LMJ until Game 3 also sets him up to pitch Game 7 next round if we get there…or World Series Game 1 if you win before it gets to 7.
Good, I was hoping they would stick with him. We eat 92 MPH fastballs. Of course, I wouldn't mind facing Lynn again either.
Not sure why some posters are getting too cute. Just play to win the series. You should not look forward to the next series because that's how you get burned.
i think people are confusing "maximize the chance we win the series" with "try to end the series as soon as we can." starting LMJ clearly does the latter, but not sure it does the former, although the home/road splits from this year might suggest that he's better on the road. otherwise the argument has to be that a framber start is better than an urquidy start. and to that i say, maybe?
MLB hit man. He sucked all year so if he misses some calls it’s status quo and MLB has no accountability anyways. He just needed to miss them in the right direction.
see below. if you are talking about me, i am not suggesting not to win to play the series. i am saying that it's not clear that starting LMJ in game 4 increases the net likelihood of winning the series.
Looking at both games, pitching your best pitchers on normal rest is good. Starting your best two pitchers who happen to be ground ball pitchers (McCullers, Framber) against a team that hits a lot of ground balls and had hit only singles against them is good. Pitching your guy with the best road splits on the road and the guy with better home splits at home is good. I like Urquidy and think he can handle the pressure. I think there is a reason McCullers and Framber started game 1 and 2 and having them lined up both to pitch if needed is the best way to win one of the two games.
I think this is probably true and meaningful with a Rondon start. I’m the end you gotta play the schedule you get though and I don’t think the Astros can’t complain too much since it also helps them.
i think this is fair - but it's based on the view that framber game 5 is better than urquidy game 4. i'm not super confident that's right at this point but i lean that way as well.
Now their bullpen gets rest and we’ll be less rested for next round. I’m even more mad at the umpires last night. ****.
