How can fit be off in 1 game with an inconsistent rotation?

    Let's give it some time.

That’s not something I would look at until next year’s deadline. Even then, I think if you don’t find a good return and re-sign him, he would be a moveable player down the road. It’s going to be quite a while before we realize who fits and who doesn’t. And, to be honest, I’m not sure we would ever truly know while Silas is the coach.

I don’t want to trade wood but I also don’t hate the idea. What I do hate is Ben Simmons, I really don’t get why people want him in this team. I wouldn’t take him for free unless we were immediately flipping him elsewhere.

Wood is more unique to Houston because the position we’re the most selective as picky about is our bigs. If you don’t fit our mold at the big position the Rockets FO would rather just not play a big at all. If we trade Wood with no replacement in mind we might’ve jsut set the rebuild back two years. It’s hard to find a skilled big like Wood for our system. Hosuton doesn’t value a big like Ayton.

You can tell the fit is off after one preseason game?

Yeah, also this. Yall need to realize the preseason isn't indicative of how we are going to play in the regular season. Minutes distribution and shot distribution are both a lot different in the preseason and you shouldn't take too much away from it.

And yet he put up 21 ppg avg and committed quite fewer turnovers (2 tpg). I rather see him get such high percentage shots than always jacking up 3s.

I very much agree that 1 preseason game seems more than a little bit too quick to determine if the fit is off or not.

BUT I am open to trading Wood if a deal pops up that makes sense. I don't know that Ben Simmons is it though. If we're making knee jerk reactions after 1 game mine is that our shooting was terrible! Terrible 3 point shooting. Terrible free throw shooting. Not sure I'm amped to add Simmons to that mix.

His post defense is atrocious so unless you want to win 17 games again playing him at the 5 is stupid.

    I’ve been saying this

I wrote a post a few months back saying we need to get rid of him and capitalize on draft compensation that he will provide

It also opens up more floor time for our bigs we just drafted

And for Tate and KJ Martin

And most importantly that’s gonna put us in the back five in the NBA

Which is almost going to guarantee a top five or six pick

    And maybe the first pick....

The only downside to doing this- is Christian Wood wanted to come and chose us

Could possibly hurt other free agent signing in the future not feeling stability

The suggestion here is starting Theis and Simmons together at the 4 and 5? Neither can shoot would we survive that? The defense would be spectacular but the offense would suffer a bit. Is it worth paying Simmons all that money to see?

Playing Theis alongside Wood is going to allow Wood to float more around the perimeter and spread the floor. He's capable of scoring multiple ways and seems poised to elevate his offensive game. The only concern I have is number of touches and plays called for him. I hope he is treated more like a 2 or 3rd option and not a 4th or 5th.

Wood will most likely eventually be trade because of his value but trading two guys that shoot for one guy that has the worst jumper in the league is a hard no. Gordon for a future 1st and someone the Rockets can cut at the end of the year. Wood you wait and see how well he plays he might bring something very nice in the long run. Simmons isn't worth what he is signed for at this point.

If the return pushes your team closer to a championship, you make the trade. Independent of the player.

Haven't seen a trade proposal that fits that yet though.

For sure. Sengun honestly looks like a much better fit for this offense than Wood. Would trade him and Gordon for Simmons + a few picks. Or to GSW.

Can't play defense (he looked like the worst defender of the starters and that includes Jalen Green) and is a black hole on offense. Sengun is always looking to make the right play and looks aware of everything. Wood does not. He has 20/8 with a negative +/- written all over him.
