Do you like the current format? l prefer the way the NBA does it-16 teams, best of 7 in every round, and 2-2-1-1-1 format in every round.
16 MLB playoff teams would be awful, the NBA playoffs are bloated as is. A 7-game ALDS wouldn't be the end of the world, but I like the MLB being the most exclusive playoff considering how flukey the whole thing is.
All I know is that if the Dodgers lose also, the wild card will either be eliminated or made best of 5.
If the MLB ever expands to 32, (4 divisions of 4 teams each league) I could see it adopt the NFL playoff rules, which would eliminate the wild card as we know it.
**** right the **** off with this you ****ing troll on the first day of the ****ing postseason. Would you like my more nuanced opinions?
The regular season matters in baseball. The sport is leisure enough without 6 months of preseason games like the NBA. Basketball can survive with storylines and flashy play.
I prefer the NBA has a 162 game regular season and has teams play 3 or 4 game series (all in one place) against each other with no off days.
Format should be 3-game WC, 5-game LDS, 7-game LCS & WS. Start times for weekdays should be staggered accordingly: 2 games: 5pm, 7pm CST 3 games: 4pm, 6pm, 8pm CST 4 games: 4pm, 5:30pm, 7pm, 8:30pm CST Everything else including number of teams is fine.
Nah, NFL would be better with the COVID NBA schedule. Season starts in October, 82 games, handful of back-to-backs and 3/4. Pause the season in March, then resume it in late summer. Playoff matchups all 7 game series. Increase roster size to 54.
You cannot be serious. So after a long, 162 game marathon of a season, you're suggesting the league allows over HALF of the teams to get into the playoffs?? And then you're also suggesting a potential of 9 additional playoff games to the 19/20 games they already play now?? And you're ALSO suggesting taking potentially 4 travel days in the middle of each and every series that's played?? You'd essentially be tacking on almost an entire extra month to the playoffs, and we'd have a World Series taking place near Thanksgiving. And then after ALL that, players from the World Series teams would basically have like 2 1/2 months off before having to start the grind all over again. And this seems like a good idea to you??
I believe Wild Card should be best of 3, then re-seed so the #1 overall seed doesn't end up having to play the team with the 2nd best record in MLB in the DS. If the Dodgers lose in the Wild Card so be it. Winning the division means something, which I like about MLB and why having divisions in the NBA makes no sense. The Giants did everything they could do and shouldn't have to play the Dodgers in the DS.
I haven't looked up the data but I doubt this scenario (the 2nd best record in MLB plays the team with the best record in DS) occurs all that often.
And l prefer the 2-2-1-1-1 format over the 2-3-2 in a best of 7. l was glad when the NBA got rid of the 2-3-2 format in the Finals.
The top 8 teams in each league should make the post season regardless of division. Then the top 2 teams wouldn't have to meet until the LCS.
