Am I in the minority to think that KPJ can be a bigger star than Green? I worry green turns out to be an offensive juggernaut. A guy that can get buckets, but not much else. I fear he turns out like Jamal Crawford. Which hey, Jamal was a great player and fun to watch…but Jamal never carried a team.

this is only based on clips. Opinion may change after some games. But for now, I’m betting on KPJ.

You may be right about KPJ, but your comparison of JGreen and Jamal is dead wrong. They are diametrally opposite. You can argue that JCrafword was more talented than 98% of the league, he just didn't have the drive and will to improve and work on his game. JGreen is the opposite in that regard. He works hard and is a gym rat. Hopefully he has a talent level similar to Jamal, because if he does, he's going to be a top 5 player in the league when he hits his prime.

I don’t recall Jamals early years, work ethic, or the projections tbh. I just remember what he became — a really talented offensive player that made difficult shots but didn’t really play a lot of defense and didn’t impact team enough to win anything meaningful.

Word is Green does have a great work ethic, you’re right there. Hopefully he applies that ethic to both sides of the ball!

We share the same hope :)
Back to KPJ, i think he will make the leap this year.
BUT, defense is the key to both his and team success. If I'm understanding correctly from all their interviews, they plan on running at a fast pace. If they can get consistent stops defensively, with their speed and energy, they will be unstoppable on the break.

We'll see how KPJ and Green will do on that end. They have the physical abilities (JG needs to bulk up a bit though), so the key for them will be desire, energy and consistency on the defensive end.

One of the best KPJ highlights from last season is IMO that defensive play vs. Mavs, when he stopped Luka, then blocked another guy (can't remeber who exactly), and then ran the court and finished it with a dunk.

If he and Green can make those types of plays more often, we will be a surprise team.

I suspect Jamal worked on his game a lot. But he came into the league as a 20 year old that didn’t get a ton of minutes and put up 4,9 and 11 ppg his first three years in he league. Eventually he peaked at 20 ppg and 5 apg in a starter role with the Knicks which is pretty solid… before slowly turning into the microwave off the bench he eventually became for good.

Jalen is kind of expected to be able to do what Jamal did at his peak pretty early on. The array of offensive moves for example Jalen has is just something that wasn’t in Jamals book. Great scorer but more of a run around till open dribble around till open type guy. Jalen can already put people on skates. Jalen of course also has a level of athleticism that is a clear level .. or two or three above Jamals.

Jalen may never put in a season or career better than Jamals peak. You never know. But you’d certainly hope so and can see it easily happening.

And all that said… I’d still agree KPJ may end up the best player on this Rocket squad. He has 25/10 potential with decent boards and the potential to be a plus defender albeit a ways to go in that department. He has an ability to control the game with pace in a way lots of superstar guards do, yet still as A level nba athleticism.

the upside scenario for KPJ, Jalen, Sengun… heck Jaygup… it’s pretty crazy. We’re not talking about say Josh Giddy - no offense to Giddy (watch him go out there and become some crazy uniquely good player lol… but I doubt it) - but there’s serious potential Giddy is one of these mid/late lotto picks that becomes AT BEST an Otto Porter type player and at worst forgotten about in a few years.

I really like how he handles himself, let's hope he matures, and grows into all that he can be both on and off the court.

Why does Green bring out the fear in everyone? We should be happy, not scared.

Jalen Green is a Gifted Passer as well, I saw a Great Behind the Back Pass Highlight when Jalen Green was with the Ignite Team. He has that Ability.

It is upto Jalen himself to play Point Guard during moments and making great Passes to Teammates.

    Watch Carefully

What’s funny is if we would’ve landed Cade all the discussion would be who will lead the offense can KPJ be an off ball shooter etc. Can he and Cade be like Harden and Paul?

Now we have a backcourt of very high ceiling but different talents. Let them do what they do best. Let KPJ run pnr and let Green run around screens, hit open shots and pump fake close outs on his way to huge dunks. I don’t care if Green never becomes a complete playmaker if KPJ becomes an elite one.

Very excited to see all this young talent this year!

I wish I can vote because it's clear that he's going to be a scrub given the number of tattoos he has.

I think unless Jalen green turns into a kobe level guy.

the team is better off if kpj turns into a James harden clone and green is his more athletic klay Thompson backcourt partner.

none the less it’s an interesting starting backcourt either way both guys are 6’5-6’6 super athletic one can shoot really well already and the other can handle the rock get to the paint and really does have a true eye for the floor making him potentially a great passer.

harden year one in houston was a great pick and roll passer with Asik. He turned into an elite level passer with MDA as his coach.

kpj reminds me of harden under Mchale. Very good pick and roll passer and can get in to the paint and kick out to shooters, his base is their we’ll have to see if he can truly be one of the best passers in the game like harden is now or if this is as far as it goes which might be enough if Jalen green is what we hope.

if I had to pick I think kpj if he can pull his shooting numbers up will be one of the best players in the basketball because of hie size much like JH. It’s just rare to be that size and have those skills it’s why guys like Lebron harden and luka now put up these crazy 30/10 games like it’s nothing.
