Do people not realize what a GENIUS move that was??? We will not see an exodus of young talent for many years like we saw in this draft. Surefire first rounders in any other year were pushed into the second round. Hell, guys who could have made rosters in years past didn't even get drafted! Morris would have been a first rounder GUARANTEED any other year. Another result of this mass exodus is that the next few drafts are going to suck. Jason Williams. Yao Ming. That's it. Sure sucks having a late first rounder when the draft pool is two players deep. Remember, Detroit would likely have given the Rockets a pick in the 20s. Considering that Rudy wanted Morris with the #23 pick THIS year, imagine how high Rudy would be willing to take him in crappy draft! A late first rounder is nothing but a salary cap albatross. Whereas a high second round pick provides late first round talent (maybe even better this year) at a bargain basement price. So Atlanta can have that pick from Detroit (I mean, they can trade for the Lakers' pick to meet the obligation!). Vancouver can have the Rockets' pick next year (likely around #18). The Rockets are young enough as it is. Getting Terence Morris for $350,000 or so was a great move. ------------------
Perhaps I use hyperbole when I call the move GENIUS. But getting a four-year starter with the skills of a Terence Morris in the second round while getting rid of a burden of a pick in a crappy draft is pretty damn crafty! ------------------
I disagree, you can never really judge a draft class before March Madness. Even our own Steve Francis was at best a 7-12 draft pick before a great Tourney performance. In terms of really big names, you forgot about guys who might leave early:James White, Dajuan Wagner. But I do agree about Morris, he should have been a 1st rounder. ------------------ The title will come to ClutchCity once again.
A GENIUS move would have been getting DICKAU!!! I think DICKAU!!! could have been our third point guard. If only DICKAU!!! had declared. ------------------ It's a ring toss game.
Actually, next year's draft could be even better AND deeper than this year's. Just remember these names: Amare Stoudamire Stavlik Randolph Darius Rice James White Dajuan Wagner Jamal Sampson Vincent Yarborough Drew Gooden Dunleavy, Jr. Carlos Boozer Rod Grizzard Just to name a few! ------------------
I don't think genius is that far from the truth, Morris was projected to be a lottery pick, or at least a first round pick 2 or 3 years ago. This move could turn out to be a sleeper move like Mobley was. ------------------ "Win if you can, lose if you must but always cheat!" - Jesse Ventura
Yao Ming! Jason Williams ! ------------------ Clutchcity.net... source for all your Rockets, Astros, political, music, humor, and Gordita news.
I'll definitely remember DaJuan Wagner's name.... can't wait to see what kind of pro he turns out to be. Not to mention, aren't Jason Williams and Yao Ming in that draft as well? It could be a very deep draft. ------------------ This space awaiting something witty to be said in a long, slow off-season...
I don't buy all the hype surrounding Wagner. I've seen him play, and I wasn't that impressed. He can shoot lights out, but he doesn't impress me that much in any other area. ------------------ The Smurfs were Communists [This message has been edited by tacoma park legend (edited July 02, 2001).]
... but we need a center, and we sure aren't going to have the first pick ... Kudos on the pick for Morris. Actually, I would have liked to get another 2nd rounder from this draft, and grabbed Woods or Johnson. a bird in the hand... ------------------ the more I know, the more I know I don't know...
