My renewal is coming up next month and I am not looking forward to signing a new contract. The price is quite a bit higher now than a year ago.

Last year my price was about $9.4c/kWh after fees for 1000 kWh usage. This year is going to be at least $11.9c/kWh.

I can't decide if I should sign up for a contract longer than one year. Seems like power price will just keep going up, but I hate committing such a long term.

Unfortunately the $11.9c/kWh price I quoted is the best price from powertochoose already. If I go month to month with my current provider, it'll be something like $0.20/kWh, absolute insanity. These companies really prey on consumers that aren't aware. My dad had been paying Centerpoint's month to month price for years before I signed him up for a plan.

CenterPoint doesn't bill customers. He was paying someone else month-to-month.

Oh. You're right. Maybe it was Reliant. I just remember it's one of the really big guys, not the typical small companies that you would see on powertochoose.

If you find a fixed rate below 9.5c, I would sign a 2 year contract if they offer.

Be sure to ask them how long you'll have a blackout this winter.

They totally ****ed me over with getting my gas turned on during my last move.

Imagine this, the Friday before the big storm (which knocked the area's electricity out on Sunday morning) you're moving to your new house with the gas turn on scheduled same day. You show up approxamitely 4 minutes late to the appointment time while bringing stuff from the old house, nobody's there, no calls, you figure they are late

Surprise, they came on the dot, ringed the doorbell twice and immediately left without giving a call. You try to schedule for someone to come back, they say no, they charge you 50 bucks for the missed appointment and insist that we received a call before the man left.

Our house was below 50 by Saturday morning. They didn't come until the following Thursday. Thanks, CenterPoint.
