Serious questions - what do you think this roster's outlook is after adding Simmons (and assuming he buys into playing the 4 spot). Are they still a lottery team , a play in team , an 8 seed ? 4 seed ? top 2 seed ? Then , what's the plan going forward to improve to a true contender ? remember we've used 4 draft picks and most of the future cap space to swap Wall for Simmons - What's the plan ?!
Good health is a given in this hypothetical, as well as Simmons good behavior (he has to want to be in Houston). Would not give up Rockets 2020 or 2030 FRP, only Nets and/or Bucks picks. And perhaps House + Garuba, if necessary. Scoot-Thriller-Simmons-Wood core is a 6 seed minimum IMO. 5th starter is either Theis/Tate depending on opposing team with EGo/Snipa, Nwaba, KJ and Sengun off the bench. This roster would be long, up tempo, athletic, switchable, disruptive and good enough with 3ball to space the floor for a 5 Out Offense. And team should improve seeding the following season barring injuries or FO/ownership shenanigans. This Big 4 led Rockets would be better than: Kings, Thunder, Spurs, Pelicans, Pups, Grizz, Warriors - even Mavs. Again, just my opinion. We already know that Stone/Silas were ready to build around Simmons if Sixers trade was accepted so they must of had a similar plan. That Rockets continue to be mentioned in trade discussions regarding Simmons implies that Stone/Silas see value in a young All Star, which Stone insisted he needed in any James Harden trade once upon a time. But this contentious back and forth is rather pointless because we do not make any decisions or set strategy, no matter which side of this issue we prefer. Let chips fall where they may.
I was in no way trying to be contentious ..... I just thought it would be interesting to hear your idea beyond the actual trade.
were you also one (of many) to claim suns were just lucky last season? or i have mistaken you for somebody?
I am open to the idea of getting Ben for the right price. We need that kind of defense in the lineup and Ben fits the transition game. Ben's game is not an alpha type and so we really don't need him to be an alpha. Just be a dog on defense and make plays for his teammates. Green- Wood- Porter can handle the scoring load while Theis-Simmons- Tate-KJ- EG can provide that HEAT on defense.
In that order. Only bc we just drafted Green and not sure yet if Wood is a max franchise guy. Pretty sure he'll get it though from us.
Lol. So then you think Stone and the Rockets are closer to the Kings now? Is that what you are arguing? The Rockets have a bottom level talent evaluation? The city of Houston is also on the same level as the Kings now too? I do but, you don’t have much faith in Stone?
Quite optimistic, but if you actually believe that then it's no wonder you are pushing so hard for Simmons. From last place to 6th seed minimum all in one season. Rockets have been mentioned in almost every trade rumor as Stone has followed Morey in that path. Not everything dropped in the media is true and is often just counter intelligence. It's very possible TIlman never intended too and still doesn't intend to trade with Morey. Maybe take your own advice?
Imagine trading our 2022 unprotected first (with Wall) for Simmons and still ending up with a bad enough record to get another high draft pick only to see it go to the Sixers. To hell with that. Keep the pick and let the Sixers dump that loser on another team.
No to Simmons. Highly talented but an entitled and mentally weak player who cracks under pressure and refuses to work on his deficiencies.
That is certainly a major concern. We have a nice sized war chest now, especially now with our current roster projection which adds a valuable 2022. Keep our powder dry and let the youth mouth flourish for 2021. There will be other large game out there.
