Could this be the next Sam Bowie over Jordan? Detroit coasts to the finals this year with Melo in their lineup instead of Darko riding the bench. Tayshaun Prince is a nice role player that could give Carmelo a rest when he leaves the game. The Pistons would be left with absolutely no weaknesses in their lineup, and depth to boot.

They'd have the Wallace's up front to clean up the glass and do the dirty work. They'd have excellent backcourt play in Billups and Rip, and the prototype SF in Carmelo. Not to mention Okur and Prince coming off the bench. They would dominate the East for years.

That being said, it's still too early to call Darko a bust. But from what I've heard, he's got a long way to go.

Melo is nothing more than a younger Glen "Big Dog" Robinson. There are lots of these types in the league.

Not saying that Darko has done much yet but it is still early to tell. There is more than enough time for Darko to prove his worth

no because Melo is no Jordan. Someone once said he's only getting hype because the media wants someone for LeBron to have a rivalry with.

the Glen Robinson comparison is really very accurate, I think. Young big dog is what Melo's game reminds me of. Melo is a better rebounder though. Another guy maybe would be stackhouse. Melo's certainly no Grant Hill... not as versatile.

I say he is along the lines of how Glenn Robinson Plays but i do believe he has a bit more skill that Robinson did. Robinson was hurt a lot so i can't blame him for that but i do think that Carmelo is a bit better than Robinson and will be for the long run as long as he stays heathly.

You have to discount to present value. A promise to pay me $1000 in three years is not worth $1000 now, because forgoing the use of the money for that long has to be accounted for.

Similarly, even if Darko becomes the equal of Carmelo in three years (far from a sure thing), you're still behind because you could have had Melo for those three years that Darko was warming the pine.

Why do you compare Big Dog to Melo? Their games are not much simliar.
Melo can pass and runs the floor much better than Robinson. Robinson is a better shooter but he never had an atheleticism of Melo's.
Melo is going to be something special.....-_-.. dont compare him to big pup.

    Melo Rookie

    21 6 and 3

    Big Dog Rookie

    22 6 and 2

they are very similar. Big Dog's problem isn't game, it's desire.

Agreed. Big Dog never worked to improve after his first couple of years. Now he's nothing more than a spot up shooter who doesn't play defense. Hell, I'd rather take a Big Dog clone than someone who can't even get off the bench for 1 minute a night.

This would be a good analogy, except everyone agreed that Darko had higher potential at the time of the draft.

I don't really see Melo as being a major upgrade over someone like Prince, who started for Detroit most of the season. And considering that the Pistons already have perimeter scorers in Hamilton and Billips, there would be a nasty problem of sharing the ball.

Meanwhile, Darko has the potential to absolutely dominate the no-big-men-East in a few years. So thinking long term, the decision still makes a lot of sense as of today. Isn't Darko something like 18 this year? Yao at age 20 had almost no chance against NBA players. Yet in 3 years he's become the 2nd best center in the NBA. Until Darko proves that he'll never develop in this way, it's not Bowie over Jordan.

Glenn Robinson was a darn fine player. Nothing wrong with being compared to him.

I'm gonna say what people always say to me. You must have never seen him play when he was younger. He used to score thirty regularly in college.

And that was when college basketball player stayed, so he did it against a lot better competition.

another thing to remember is Brown is not a big rookie player..... no way Carmelo got the minutes he did with Denver... he might have got some but knowing Brown probably not that many

Well I'm at the stage where I have to defeat Jason Williams by "Bringing Down The House" regardless of the score. I've tried damn near everything. When I finally gave up the score was 260(me) to 190(Jason). I guess I'm a quitter.

Darko is a 7 footer with alot of potential. Bigmen win rings these days and if darko pans out then it would be better for the pistons. Darko is suppose to be an athletic 7 footer with great shooting touch. If darko can become the next KG and melo becomes the next tmac, who would you choose? Obviosly thats what the pistons are gambling on and when you stumble upon the number 2 pick when you made the ECF you can afford to wait around for darko, especially when you have a very servicable SF like prince.

With the influx of high schoolers and 18 year old 7 footers from europe coming in the draft is a crap shoot. With all this "potential" you cant let other teams get the next Magic Johnson, KG, Shaq etc. .. You never know if your euro or high schooler will ever live up to their potential.
