Come on, dude. The divsion the Oilers played in was competitive and never refered to as the worst division in football mutliple years in a row -- you know, the times when the Texans won the division. I get it. You're too young to have watched them, so they don't matter. But as bad as the Oilers played some years, and as evil as Bud Adams was (glad he's getting ****ed in the ass with a chainsaw in Hell for all of eternity), the Texans cannot compare. All they have done for their whole history is disappoint the city of Houston.

I’d also give them the year after that with the lettermen jacket season. They were one of the best teams in the league for almost the whole season going 11-1 at one point and then the wheels fell off as usual.

Matt Shaub as a very reliable QB lasted longer then he really should have in my opinion, props to Kubiak making him relevant for as long as he could before Shaub’s arm fell off basically, but can you imagine Deshaun at the helm of those two years? Arien Foster as the best back in the league, hall of famer WR Andre Johnson, Owen Daniels, and JJ entering his prime? At least one Super Bowl appearance for sure I would think.

This is a total misappropriation of a city-specific legacy. The Oilers franchise is yours, fine, but Bum Phillips and Luv Ya Blue belongs to Houston. Eff these guys. Why wasn't a deal like what Cleveland did how they kept their brand, colors, and record book done with this relocation?

Because Bud Adams was just that bad. The city would have rather lost the team if it meant they could get rid of him for good.

Also there was no immediate re-brand like what happened in Baltimore. The Tennessee Oilers were a thing and Bud wanted the name and history to stay attached.

And look at us now, the mighty Houston Texans!! Still with no afc championship appearances, let alone any Super Bowls.

oh and our star QB is on the bench getting a paycheck.

    Nice

And, as I recall, Cleveland was almost instantly promised an expansion team...there was immediately a franchise that was going to exist that the Browns/Ravens could assign that intellectual property to. It was 3 years after the Oilers left before the NFL granted a new franchise to Houston.

Still coulda / shoulda been done, though. Oh, well. Bud was such a POS.

    Yep, total POS.

At least take solace in knowing his franchise would have been worth double what it is now had they stayed in Houston with a new stadium. A total short-sighted decision by the worst POS owner who constantly made bad short-sighted decisions.

I wonder when they’ll push for a new stadium in Nashville as that place is starting to show its age.

That was negotiated with the league due to the historical nature of that franchise being associated with the NFL, city of Cleveland and Paul Brown. As I recall, the blowback was so huge, the league allowed Modell to move the francise but he was required to forfeit the Browns, name and brand. Modell then sent moving vans to the Browns HQ and their stuff was packed up and moved during the dead of night to Baltimore. In Houston, Bud owned everything about the Oilers due to the fact they were a founding member of the old AFL. Hence, it was his to do as he pleased and there was nothing anyone could do about it.

Oh, and Amy Sistrunk says "Kiss My Columbia Blue Ass!"

Houston made very little fight or blowback to keep the Oilers… that’s how badly they wanted to get rid of Adams.

Modell owned the rights to the Browns as well. If he really wanted to keep the name, he could of. He wasn’t the founder, like Adams, thus he wasn’t as attached to it… and if it helped push along approval of the move, he wasn’t going to let that impact things.
