Pena doesn’t have Correa’s physical potential. Correa basically had/has unlimited physical upside across the board: an elite arm, elite quickness, elite bat speed and elite power. Pena hitting 30 HR has got to be the ultimate ceiling of his power, while Correa uncorking a 50 HR season wouldn’t super shock anybody. But Pena may get to a higher % of his lesser upside, not to mention stay a lot healthier.
Pena hit 3 dingers in the DWL this past year, which was one off the team lead and was only two behind the league leader. Then he had a couple more in spring training in only 23 at-bats before getting hurt. I don't see any reason to think this power surge isn't real, especially in light of all those saying he's worked extremely hard to change his body and add flexibility.
I don't know what the hell he did to work on his grip, wrists and bat speed but he needs to bottle it....
You don't go opposite field repeatedly like that, without the power being real.... he was fooled on some of the pitches and carried them out. He is someone that has just physically matured and has worked very hard and smartly and is blossoming. No idea how good a pro he will be, but he isn't going to Everett at SS when it comes to driving the ball.
Right. Correa from a raw physical standpoint is close to perfect. His weakest tool was footspeed and he still stole 27 bases in his first two seasons with the Astros. Correa leads all of baseball in WAR outside of Ohtani who has WAR for pitching as well. For all the **** I have given Correa, and the injuries that have cost him 200 games so far........ right now he is an elite player and probably the best defensive player in all of baseball. I think the injuries have sapped his bat a little, but he could build on this season and be an even better power hitter, where he is capable of 50 homers. Quietly Correa has almost 8 WAR this season, which is Hall of Famer elite.
How money can you sell a prospect for ? are MLB teams capped by how much they can send back in a trade ? I mean Pena could be good , a cost effective solution to Correa and the Astros continue their top class ways . however , I’m also sentimental lol and I really like Correa . Can we straight up sell Pena for 20+ mil or something like that . Sure , it takes some of the bargain out of HIS contract , but if you smooth 30 mil over 6 years of control or whatever it’s only 5 mil a year . But , something like that could help pay for Correa. if Pena is that good , it’s not unheard of it for guys out of Cuba or japan etc to get 50+ million . The value makes sense . Granted , you aren’t directly helping another team
The more baseball I watch the more I realize player comparisons are pretty useless for the most part. Most people scoffed at Altuve turning into Pedria and he’s definitely better. Some guys start career late, some flame out early like Ryan Braun. A lot has to do with luck, injury, work ethic to stay in the league and make adjustments through your career.
Ryan Braun faded early? He was a pretty elite hitter for 13 seasons. He had a .845 OPS in 144 games when he was 35 years old.
I’d say his career was split between pre and post 2012. Before that time he looked like a sure fire first ballot hall of famer, after was still a productive good player. Maybe not the best example to use, Grady Sizemore could be one but I tend to leave him out because of extreme injury.
