A24 has premiered the first trailer for Joel Coen’s “The Tragedy of Macbeth,” a black-and-white new adaptation of the classic William Shakespeare play. Denzel Washington and Frances McDormand play an older than usual version Lord and Lady Macbeth who engage in a murderous plot for power over Scotland, the scheme ultimately seeing them descend into madness. The cast also includes Corey Hawkins as Macduff, Moses Ingram as Lady Macduff, Brendan Gleeson as King Duncan, Harry Melling as Malcolm and Ralph Ineson. The project marks Joel Coen’s solo directorial debut. The film will open this year’s New York Film Festival and then hit cinemas on Christmas Day followed by a January 14th release on the Apple TV+ service. https://www.darkhorizons.com/first-trailer-the-tragedy-of-macbeth/ I think this looks amazing but I was an English major in college.....
it will be interesting to see if Joel misses Ethan with this being a solo effort. I'm a huge Coen Bros fan so I'll check it out for sure.
we saw Denzel Washington in The Iceman Cometh a couple of years ago, he was fantastic. Eager to see what he does here
Macbeth is his best play, better than Hamlet and Lear. Really hope this is great. What's your favorite adaptation? For me it's Richard III with Ian McKellen
That looks great! Thanks for the heads-up. A really terrific short film. I wouldn't have guessed just how much our "modern English" changes the meaning of Shakespeare's plays and sonnets in all sorts of ways (and not in a good way) compared to when they are done in the original Old English. It's remarkable and shown here quite clearly. I'd love to see an Old English production at the Globe Theatre in London. Perhaps we will someday, if we can ever travel again. Thanks!
I have a couple of Apple products. An iPhone and iPad, but I do most of my posting from where I spend too much time, on my PC. Apple is frustrating. I'm going through a "thing" with them right now. They started charging me .99 cents a month for some gigs in their "cloud," something I never asked for, but I just ignored it. After all, it's just .99 cents. Then I was blocked out of their damn store, a "store" that is required more often than one might imagine for things other than purchases. Turns out that the credit card I had on file with them no longer worked. It had been misplaced, god knows where, so I had gotten a new one. Never saw anything telling me to "repair" my card. In other words, they wanted "their" .99 cents. Well, I was ticked off with them already. I was supposed to get 3 free months of Apple TV+ for buying something. It never worked. I fired off some emails, they replied that they were sorry and said they'd give me the 3 free months plus a couple of extra months for the inconvenience. It never worked. It still doesn't work. Argh! I have a rotten Apple.
Listen here if you have something you want to fill me in on regarding the god damn pale rider just say it I asked nicely don't go around this forum taunting me about it, I have kids and it's difficult to fully pay attention to movies at times In the words of a clutchfans poster I've once read, don't be an *******.
WHOA....we need to stop this for a bit, I thought we were all happy friends talking general bullsh!t; if not, cool. I'll get in touch soon.
We can't tell emotion through text, but I'm just flicking your balls. I do want to know what you think I missed on that movie though
Pale Rider? I've only seen it 23 times but not in 7 or so years. I'll get back to you soon. "PREACHER!"
Trailer doesn't show you much aside from a little of the cinematography and costuming. But if a Coen brother makes something, I'll watch it.
