Ben Simmons isn't enough to make the Rockets contenders.

He'll make draft picks worse, cost 3-4 picks to acquire per this proposal, keep Rockets from having meaningful cap space for an additional 2 years, and isn't on an easily movable contract as Morey has tried hard to move it.

Treadmill of mediocrity is not worth 3-4 picks and $30+M for 4 years.

    Ohh, You haven't heard?

Salary cap may be going to as high as $175 Million in a few years due to streaming of games.

    (from 2 days ago)

So you see, the Simmons contract may end up looking like the $18M (per year)
contract of today, soon. Thus, possibly a bargain

Sounds to me you're not an optimist because if you were you'd see that, by adding Simmons to this team, we'd be in the playoff hunt. *

*-statement/opinion does not reflect my own beliefs. This is a paraphrase of what has been stated too many times on this board over the past week.

Replace “Silas” with “MDA” and “Simmons” with “Westbrook” and you’ve got your standard justification post from 2 years ago.

Anyone who says no is delusional

John Wall and the 4 Nets picks is highway robbery for us

You need two FRPS just to unload Wall and then an extra 3 to get Simmons. That trade would be killing two birds with one stone.

You can flip Simmons for better picks than the Nets ones down the line

Man, I’d love to move Wall, but two first rounders would be my limit.

Apparently John Lucas is also a shot doctor now. Who needs Chip Engelland anymore?

Nice and easy deal. 76ers get a young guard who can score in Sexton (24.1pts. 4.4asts, 3.1rebs) and a veteran big who can help. Cavs & Simmons get a fresh start plus Simmons has some years left on his deal to figure his game out with minimal pressure.

    Cavs Get:

    Ben Simmons

    76ers get:

    Kevin Love
    Collin Sexton

But no one wants to go to Houston with everyone saying tank for two or three more years.

I think it's also important to consider timing. Would I be in favor of doing this trade now - before season even starts, before I even know what it is that I have? No. Things could change throughout the course of the season but timing is a factor. Making this trade now is almost like bailing out the Sixers for them and there's no reason to. You always want to make a move that you proactively want, not in a reactionary way, because you don't lose sight of the long-term perspective of things that way

Oh I agree that we won't have FAs lining up for the next few years but that's ok. Let the 19 year olds grow up some and get experience. In the mean time we add more high draft picks to the roster. In 3-4 years, you're going to have to start writing checks anyway to keep the better players. But even in 4 years when they are all low-to-mid-20s if you can't find a max FA and the cap is crazy high, I'd rather sign 3 Christian Wood types than keep paying for Simmons.

Simmons, even for a straight up trade would make us a slightly better team in the short term but a much worse team in the long run. We'll be mid-teen picking for the next few years and locking up #1 option money on a #3 (on a good day) type player.
