I remember watching Sportscenter during the Olbermann, Patrick, Scott, Mayne days and would get the sports first, commentary second...sometimes not at all. Now it's the total opposite. It's like they've MTV'd themselves--moving away from what made the channel great in the first place and turning it into a circus show.

exactly, sadly what they realize is that like the raelity show, sensation sells
Espn is more like TMZ....If I am telling anyone where to learn about the game, steer clear of them, you may think its played1-1 the way they talk. ITs entertainment and frankly most of the personalities aren't memorable. If espn didn't have nba rights...I'd never put it on anymore...sadly NBA tv is more dedicated but the nba, like with their website, is not producing that right.

I was floored to see the salaries of Michelle Beadle and some of these people that are so replaceable in that they don't bring any unique flavor or anything memorable for the fans but espn keeps shoving them down as celebs and theres just no merit for it. Almost all of em are 'good enough' weathermen replacement variety.

Definitely! Also had Rachel been black, her comments would've been passed off as freedom of speech and what's happening now as racist, cancel culture and people would've been way more upset.

If your show would gain value from replacing the entire cast with girls from treasures, there's something wrong.

What is the appeal of Kendrick Perkins? Genuine question/inquiry.

I think the suits think you need someone to be your "WTF is he saying?" wildcard unpolished person. He's ESPN's ALDI Shaq.

From what I've seen of Perkins, he's honest and straightforward and blunt. And I usually agree with what he says, so there's that.

Only a strong east coast bias would try to put Perk and Shaq in the same sentence.

Brother has been the exact same since like the 10th grade. I remember him in high school in Beaumont as a 12th grader… they were playing some prep school like Strake Jesuit or Kinkade and kept jawing at this like 6’4”-6’5” white kid during his game… first Perkins team lost, second after the game the white kid beat his ass in the parking lot in front of everyone. Perkins was on the ground with a bloody nose crying that it wasn’t a fair fight after security escorted the white kid away. He got his ass beat by a kid 6 inches shorter than him, like 70-80 lbs lighter and from a prep school…. ****ing wannabe goon.

He had quite the prep career though. Working his way up to one of the golden triangles most famous persons behind babe didrikson and bun b.

Every move ESPN has made in the last 15 years has been for the worse. They've been on a bender. Taking what was at least great television and putting a sledge hammer to it for no reason at all.

I hung out a bit with Ramonce Taylor back at UT. One time there was a Celtics game in the background, and RT just started going off on Perkins and how soft he is. He talked about how they played a couple times - not sure if it was AAU or regular high school). Perkins talked a bunch of noise in the first half. RT demanded that he guarded him in the 2nd half (he's 5-9 with long arms, but still... a legit foot difference ), and he only scored 2 points on free throws. I'm sure it was on the fact that his guards struggled to get an inbound pass, but I could never take Perkins seriously after that.
