It's starting to look like teams should just concede the unearned run and pitch from the windup. If they get the first out without the runner (at third, heh) scoring, then they could play to stop the run. But all these 3, 4, 7 run tenth innings - wow.
Isn't it exactly the same as one of their others except for the little 'Los' between the Nike logo and Astros or am I missing something?
Can we please start a petition to handcuff Presley to the bench in a tie game in the 9th so we can force Dusty to save him for the 10th when a zero-inning is harder and more valuable?
So...after Yordan's ground out that moved the runners to 2nd and 3rd, did anyone else notice what happened next? They showed the dugout and Correa was talking to Baker. Shortly after, Siri came in to pinch run for Bregman. Pretty sure Correa had to remind Baker that they don't want Bregman in a full on sprint to tie the game. Similar to earlier in the year when the winning or tying run was on first and it was Maldanado or Castro. After 1 or 2 pitches Straw came in to pinch run.
I thought they pulled the infield in way too far with a runner on third base & 1 out in the 10th inning. They were playing all the way in on the grass. Even 10 steps back, Altuve makes the play on the ground ball and I doubt the runner on third even breaks for home. If he does, there's a still a good chance he gets gunned at the plate. This is fairly new strategy to consider, knowing you start off the bottom half of the inning with a runner on 2nd base. I think keeping that run from scoring is not as dire....and getting that second out is worth the risk of playing the infield back mid-depth and not so far in on the grass.
He didn’t get Scherzer, but since the deadline the bullpen has been overworked and overall has still held up well. It’s gone from a clear weakness to one of the better bullpens in the league. Imagine how this month would have gone with the pre-deadline bullpen. https://www.houstonchronicle.com/te...-Bullpen-carrying-heavy-workload-16470550.php
I think the previous time I noticed lends credence to it being true. With Diaz still available to play 3B it was a no brainer last night to make that change and it wasn't done immediately. It should have been done with Yordan batting.
Correa was also the first to greet Bregman when he got to the dugout. Player-manager should definitely help his advanced stats and salary negotiations.
hmm...Astros reliever xwOBA post-deadline: .307. Astros reliever xwOBA pre-deadline: .305. Biggest bullpen improvers at the deadline by xwOBA seem to be the reds (.314/.285 pre/post deadline xwOBA) and Dodgers (.286/.264). Interestingly, the Rays pen has been awful post-deadline (.331 xwOBA)
Kole Calhoun is only 12-21 off of Greinke so I fully expect him to annoy the hell out of me again today.
maybe it is dusty 3d chess. Hmm, if I don’t manage, that forces the players to be engaged and pay attention to the game, which makes them better players and improves their mental game, and we all profit… geebus dusty sucks.
Death Star lineup minus Darth Brantley and Darth Gurriel. Got to hold them back in case Cy Yoda shows up for the opposition.
