I like what Stone is doing and I'm a recent hater of Morey after loving him for years, but Stone's team hasn't played one game yet.
and i would even say that 'Stone's team' isnt even built yet... dude is only 1 year in to his efforts...
Both are looking good. One has a proven record of excellence, the other one has an excellent beginning to his tenure given the poopoo platter Tilfart gave him.
Battled every year...and, pretty much had WON (were it not for Silver..and, the CP3 injury) against one of the greatest dynasties of All Time. Look at Yao's foot injury against LA. The Lakers were a beaten team when it happened...you could see it. Daryl could EASILY have two titles already....against/going through titanic teams. General public perception would be quite different indeed. But even as it sits, I see Daryl as an all time great GM...an innovator/transcendent talent. Admittedly, as many have stated , it IS so early in Stone's tenure....That said, there's already much to be gleened. Substance and style.. A Morey disciple, yes... to be sure. But, perhaps a fusion of Old School & Analytics...The next evolutionary step... We shall see, but at the moment.. IN RAFA WE TRUST.
Option 4: way too early to measure a 13 year tenure vs a 1 year. Signs are very positive for Rafell to be a much better roster builder but he ain't gone up 3-2 in 2 WCFs yet against eventual Champs due to heavy injuries.
At this point Stone has done better than Morey just on the merit of cleaning up the mess Harden and Morey left behind. We got stuck with something at least it's not Westbrook. Morey could have tanked, he just always thought he knew better. He literally promised Les he could find a hidden star without tanking. HIs one claim to fame is his greatest accomplishment. It also is why no one liked him. Then you have people like me who liked you when your on the team but pick apart every mistake once your gone. Seriously though this last draft was better than any 6'8 PF Morey could have drafted lol. Everything your boy YOLO said about Ben Simmons could also be said about Harden. Terrible leader.....doesn't like to be told anything on and on.....Good thing he's Morey's problem now and Stone had enough sense to pass.
Albeit it's only one year but to me it's pretty obvious it's Stone. Stone has been all substance and no flash while getting wrongly bashed.
imho they were better then sacramento even before they started tanking LOL serious contender in their minds only, they were mostly pretenders with no real chance to winning it all... mediocrity threadmill before and after the tank....all they need is one fatal injury to embiid to become even worse team than before...
I think, like you and many have said, the big difference is style/approach. Stone seems to be more personable whereas Morey tended to be more binary with the way went about his business. Of course his approach has created a few successful teams but perhaps the intangible that could have pushed his team-building skills (and also his teams) over the top is that personable skill that Stone has. Maybe if Morey had a higher EQ he could have helped mediate that growing divide between Paul and Harden after the WCF loss and that team wouldn't have dissolved so fast.
