Lee and Maldy split most of the innings next season with Lee assuming most of the starts by the end of the season. I do not think Castro plays for Houston again due to his current injury.

 

What is the extent of Castro's current injury?

 

Nobody knows...he had a bad ankle/achilles earlier in May, and he hasn't been right since. Now it's his knee, which could be a part of that. Who knows?

 

No one in the organization is saying anything about it. It is odd because the Astros employees are not exactly lipped about injuries or gossip… my guess is the Astros don’t know what to expect.

 

If Castro has to play on one leg to collect his money , he will do it. IMHO

 

Castro doesn't have any game incentives during the 2022 session to inflate his contract.

He can play 0 games next year and still collect his salary. Just like Verlander.

 

I have followed Castro since before he was drafted. He is a gentleman. He could collect his money and never play a game, or he could agree to a buy-out and retire if he knows he will not make it back.

Nook, any insight on Verlander, specifically how reliant he's been on the sticky stuff? A lot of discussion on the possibility of resigning him next year, and I would assume mgmt knows how much he's used the Sticky stuff while here in HTown.

It's one thing coming off TJ along with his age. We've seen a lot of pitchers really struggle since they started enforcing the sticky stuff. Would be interested to know how Crane/Click look at this regarding JV and I'm sure Strom will provide valuable insight this as well.

What are your thoughts on this and can you shed any light how the 'Stros are looking at it?

 

Injuries happen and cant be predicted in guys likeJV, who's never been hurt in his career.

Totally different than signing guys that have a track record of suckage or have a history of declining velocity in Baez case. This was just a mismanagement of funds by Click. Unfortunately he hampered his teams chances of winning a championship with FA signings like this.

 

Gallo, save for an occasional homer, has been a miserable flop in New York (.133, 64 strikeouts in 159 plate appearances as of Friday).

that trade made 0 sense when they made it given their roster construction…

 

The mindblowing thing to me is the NYY brass thought it would be an upgrade.
