Why? Because I first paid attention to the Rockets when they had the 1st pick and drafted a hero of the University of Houston, an ornery guy that developed a reputation as a pain in the arse nearly as much for his team as he was for the opposition, but that came later. The Big E, Elvin Hayes. Elvin and the Coogs won the Game of the Century in the Dome. I read about how Hayes and the Rockets were doing when I got the chance and after a couple of years, to my utter astonishment, they moved to Houston. That really got me interested.

Hayes wasn’t with the team for long after that happened, but the Rockets, despite or because of having many mostly miserable seasons, still managed to get some great players over the years. Rudy, Murphy, and Moses among others. They were lucky that way, just enough to keep me optimistic, and with Moses, optimism justified. We went to the Finals and the future looked bright. Of course, our owner traded Moses away because he didn’t want to pay him what he was worth, part of a theme the Rockets have of owners you can’t enjoy, but just have to put up with.

Then later in the ‘80’s, we really got lucky. My optimism soared! We became Coin Tossers of Incredible Luck. First with 3 time College Player of the Year Ralph Sampson, who graced the cover of Sports Illustrated more times than I can count. Yet it was nothing compared to the next coin toss, which gave us another hero of the University of Houston and my favorite player of all time, Akeem Olajuwon! My middle name was Optimism! Nothing happened to dampen it, either, until after we lost in the Finals in ‘86.

The next season became a catastrophe, but because we still had Olajuwon, how could I not be optimistic? Optimism leavened with heaping amounts of frustration, until we got Dream the right coach and the miracle, the culmination of all those years of grinding my teeth trying to hold on to that optimism reached the pinnacle of Rockets glory. A championship. Two championships in a row!

I could go on. After Dream, we had Francis, Yao, Harden, and others. Yes, plenty of frustration, Yet despite everything bad that happens, eventually along comes luck. After the debacle of the end of the Harden years, a debacle that began when we traded for Westbrook, we saw Harden go to the Nets, the Rockets left with yet another lousy owner, no GM, no coach. Things looked grim. Really, really grim.

Yet I tried to be optimistic. I’ll never be optimistic about this owner, but always about the Rockets. So what happens? This draft! It could have been a disaster, yet it would be hard for it to turn out better than it did. So hell yes. I’m optimistic!

    Hey, you asked.

It's a good way to go through life, if you can! I have zero optimism about the Texans these days (Cal McNair enjoys ******** on the fans too much, **** that) so I don't follow them anymore. Seems like a waste of time and energy to me. But heck yeah, at least the Rockets sometimes win a championship or threaten to kick the door in anyway (RIP Bum <3). If I can't have SOME optimism, it doesn't feel worth my time to me…. TF has ****ed up plenty, but I’m optimistic he may have accidentally stumbled on some luck here, with the people around him. At least I haven’t decided he ENJOYS ******** on the fanbase, yet…

The Astros have just been too stupid for my tastes... Can't forgive them for ruining the joy that the 12 year old inside me felt, such a shock to him lol... I know everyone does it, but still...

Good lord, if any Houston sports fan still finds it possible to feel optimistic, let's just let them have that. But I understand how puzzling it must be to most of us... Optimists are good, I think, at selective attention... Doesn't pay to be too optimistic where humans are involved, I admit. Selectively averting the gaze when reality gets too gruesome... It's ridiculous really how much I rely on the Rockets to keep me distracted, sometimes, sure hope they never go full Texans.

Being sports-traumatized as Houston fans must be, I can at least look down the bar, three sheets to the wind at 3 am, and remember the long ago good nights, and hope for a few more before I'm done, thanks to the Rockets. Drinks for all my friends!!

And even though the top 5 players are still in the league, #1 Fultz is a flop; #2 Ball is an okay role player; #4 Jackson is a fringe rotation player. Only Tatum and Fox are anywhere close to stardom.

That would be connected with music and the Catacombs, Love Street, and several other places, including Liberty Hall, with the Vulcan Gas Company, the Armadillo and Liberty Lunch in Austin, along with other places there. Aside from that, I don't have much of an association with psychedelics.

    Vanilla Fudge.

If it was a NBA former star, I might forgive it, but not the NFL. :p:D

Or... if the chase was on foot. Donut cops chasing an aging running back.

I almost can't believe the Knicks didn't extend a QO to Frank Ntilikina , he's a good defender & a solid 3 point shooter at almost 48% on 1.5 attempts last season. Hard to believe he might be playing in Europe next season.

Hell I thought he might get offers around the taxpayer MLE which is $5.89m and thought the Knicks would most certainly match that figure but they didn't even give him a QO which made him unrestricted.

No place for him here , this roster has more than enough guards as it is but I think he can help playoff teem.

Stephen A Smith when talking about the Knicks He always talked about Frank Ntilikina, Stephen really hated Frank.

Always slandering him, now he is gone.

Stephen A Smith seems to Fire, call players a Bust All the Time.
