Since you follow the team so closely, do you guys collect their cards? What’s the best card you have?
Don't mean to hijack, but considering this is a very deep draft that could potentially be a once in a decade type of draft, I would be interested in getting a full set if I could with all of the Rockets Rookies. What brand is best these days? I have not collected in a while. Physical cards, not Top Shot.
I still have a collection of some of the Power Dancers calendars... some of them were rookies. Giggity.
I don’t think the new rookie class cards are really out yet. But Panini pretty much makes all the cards nowadays. if you are looking for available rookie cards, check this one out: https://www.ebay.com/itm/Kevin-Port...2349624.m46890.l49286&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0 it’s got Kevin Porter Jr, Kenyon Martin Jr. and Khyri Thomas. Not bad.
Do not buy that lot, rip off lot. The two graded KPJ cards have very low resell value because either they printed too many of them and graded too many of them. The rest of the cards are very low tier rookie cards. . Hakeem's best rookie card. My best card was my avatar.
I have Jae'Sean Tate & KJ Martin Jr. rookie moments on NBA Top Shot. NFT market, my account is worth $1,500 right now Check it out. https://nbatopshot.com/user/@Tom_Freddy/moments
Market is down, good time to buy. That said, the rookie cards these days are in my opinion a bad investment, probably since about 2007, your paying premium prices with no guarantee of success, or a return. And guys like Luka are being over printed and will come down. So you better like the guy to go all in. Panini is having some issues too with quality. I've had my own fails with Vince Young and Correa and learned my lessons. The best purchases I think are the GOATS. Hakeem cards are generally easy to buy, but have little long term value since he not only has faded from the game, but also because most big guys like Shaq are low value ( for no good reason if you ask me ). After Harden, Yao is doing the best because he is collectible in China, but he's not upper tier.value, just the best Rocket. As far as this crop of Rocket kids, I'd say pick up some base Jalen at low cost and hope for the best. The autos and refractors and rainbows are probably going to be over priced. Some recommendations I have for value are going after the 2nd year cards of guys like Brady and Lebron. They are cheap and on the rise. There's really no Astro, Rocket, or Oiler/Texan that is high value generally speaking. The Astros really hurt their market value. My best Rocket cards: Olajuwon/Jordan Dual auto: 10k Yao Jambalaya 2k Yao Ultimate 1k Olajuwon Skybox auto $600 And then it drops off a cliff.
A lot of people would say prizm, select, or optic... i would avoid them... Panini is flooding the market with thise brands and the suppy is 4 or 5 times larger than 3 years ago... Crown Royal still has a lower print run... i think clearly donruss is below what the values should be... Chronicles, Hoops, and Donruss are all pretty basic...
Sold my Sam Dekker rookie card for $13,800. when covid happened and ppl needed toilet paper, this was in huge demand. @J.R.
Agree and disagree. Prizm, Select and Optic will always what collectors/investors look for despite card dealers not buying them right now. I buy it with free shipping. Optic has a lower print run than Prizm, but Prizm still sells a lot more than Optic which is why I disagree on Crown Royale. The best investment returns are #/d rookie, RPA and silver/holo. This is my best card ever.
I guess it makes sense to buy the cards individually, but since I have not collected in a long time, I was interested in actually opening packs that had a high probability of getting great cards. It has probably been 20+ years since I opened a pack of cards, and that feeling can't be compared to just going on eBay and buying a card.
