Noel is not the sharpest tool in the shed and has a history of poor judgment (see poop on the wall lawsuit when he was a tenant) That doesn’t mean what Paul did was ethical though. It looks like he didn’t honor his fiduciary duty to Noel after giving him bad advice. I doubt Noel has any justification for getting 58 million but I do think there is merit to holding Paul somewhat accountable for not representing Noel in Noel’s best interest after that event. Paul left Noel to dry while his time was spent on more lucrative clients. Paul is a shark man. Look up his background, he’s always been about the hustle and operating in his own interest above others. That’s fine but you have to be ethical about it. At the very least Paul looks like someone who middle of the road players should not trust. He doesn’t compromise much so he works better for star players with more leverage.
I agree Paul seemed like he didnt do his job of representing Noel after he got him which didnt really make any sense. Its not about being ethical, imo it borders on being incompetent cuz Paul only gets paid from what Noel gets paid. But people hire incompetent people all the time unless Noel can prove Paul sabotaged him intentionally so he wont make things difficult for Lebron I dunno if he has a case.
shabazz muhammad 44 million over 4 years, if im him, i jump into this lawsuit and try and get as many former players who have been screwed over by klutch in similar fashion to get in on this as well
I dunno it kinda fits the narrative. Klutch only cares about the stars, they ignore mediocre guys like Noel. So Zach Lavine wouod do well to sign with Klutch, and THT should prob start looking for other agencies...
Rich Paul files motion to dismiss Nerlens Noel's lost earnings lawsuit NBA agent Rich Paul filed a motion to dismiss the lawsuit filed by Knicks center Nerlens Noel in August, arguing that their dispute should be arbitrated by the National Basketball Players' Association and that Noel has not paid him for negotiating a contract with New York before last season. Paul's motion was filed on Oct. 18 in Texas Northern District Federal Court. Noel's lawsuit against Paul and Klutch Sports Group alleges they breached their duties to Noel and caused him to lose out on approximately $58 million in potential earnings. In the motion to dismiss, Paul and Klutch said that the terms of the standard player-agent contract with Noel require him to resolve any disputes via NBPA arbitration. Klutch should not be a party to the dispute at all because only individuals can represent players as agents, they argue. In addition, Noel owes Paul earnings from negotiating a one-year, $5 million contract with the Knicks for the 2020-21 season, according to the motion to dismiss. Because the contract was negotiated prior to Paul and Noel ending their agent-player relationship in December 2020, Noel was required to pay Paul 4 percent of his earnings under their contract. Paul filed a grievance against Noel with the NBPA in August regarding the pay dispute, according to the motion to dismiss. "Despite multiple written requests for payment, to date, Noel has failed to pay Paul any amount resulting from the Knicks (uniform player contract)," the motion states. Noel responded to Paul's grievance and initiated his own arbitration case by filing his own grievance for breach of fiduciary duty, breach of contract, negligence and gross negligence, and breach of the duty of good faith and fair dealing. Their arbitration is currently pending before NBPA arbitrator and retired Judge Richard Levie. Noel's lawsuit argues that Paul, as Noel's representative, "did little to no work" to secure contracts, pitch teams and land endorsement deals on Noel's behalf. In the complaint, Noel's attorneys say he lost out on a four-year, $70 million contract offer from the Dallas Mavericks after the 2016-17 season and "was instead forced to sign a series of qualifying offers and league minimum contracts which were well below the true value of Noel's services in the NBA marketplace." The lawsuit seeks a declaratory judgment and monetary damages from Paul and Klutch Sports "in an amount to be proven at trial."
