I like your concept, but I think fans loved Shane Battier. Besides the championship years, one of my favorite years was the Scola/Landry/Battier years -- such a gritty team when, despite injuries, still plowed through.
Yeah, that team was basically a fan favorite squad. I had to mix it up through the years though. Some players were gonna get snubbed. If I was really making a team to win, Batttier makes it over Gerald. But I had to go with my heart. I love the Mayor.
Here's my Legacy of Bigs 9. Starters: Dream Elvin Hayes Moses Yao Sampson Bench: Deke Dwight Clint ...and Kevin Willis I guess.
Not in today’s game they don’t They are not as deep as the Lakers but they’re starting five is better , can shoot so much better
So I'm gonna make some people mad. Yao, Malone and even Elvin Hayes don't make my team because I simply don't believe they're mobile enough for the modern NBA. Dudes like that get switched off the court in the playoffs. Dream/Sampson Horry/Tomjanovich Drexler/McGrady Harden CP3/Murphy I want everybody to be switchable and everybody to be able to shoot.
That’s a damn scary team. Good balance of skills. With Dream and Sampson, you’re already covered. You don’t really need any other Centers. Maybe you could use one or two guys with a nasty streak, just to give the team some fire. I mean, you’ve got CP3 and Calvin, but a Maxwell, Elie, or Cassell wouldn’t hurt.
Murphy/SF3 James/SF3 TMac/Drexler Hakeem/Elvin Moses/Yao I'd take that starting 5 against just about any other squad.
I think Yao would crush today's NBA tbh. He would never have to bulk up as much but would still be bigger and heavier than all the other bigs whilst being encouraged and coached to shoot more. Try rushing out on the perimeter to block a 3 from a 7'6 guy? On the flip side, try holding him back inside if you're a skinny unicorn? That's a mismatch whoever you face.
Add Mad Max with Clyde. Hakeem and Moses are the centers, Ralph and the Big E are power forwards. I know it makes for 11 players, but I can't help it.
Maybe but he would get DESTROYED trying to guard guys on the perimeter. Worse than Gobert or Jokic in the playoffs.
Chuck or Elvin? For me personally, grew up with the championship era Rockets so that influences a lot of these decisions: Harden - Drexler - Battier - Horry - Olajuwon Murphy - McGrady - Scola - Yao
PG Chris Paul SG James Harden SF Tracy McGrady PF Ryan Bowen C The Dream Need Ryan Bowen to give other teams a chance, and have one player that doesn't need the ball lol... But if I gotta be foreelz, I think 96-97 Chuck has gotta be the best PF we've ever had. I guess you could slide Hakeem to the PF, but doesn't seem right. Maybe Thorpe is a good middle ground.
