Good to know, though his initial post suggested that is what he thought: So, terrorists killed thirteen Americans and dozens of innocent civilians and we’ve retaliated by blowing up one car with a “planner” and some other dude? That’s a tradeoff they’d take again and again. Hell, they sacrificed at least one person in the suicide attack itself.
I think it likely he still holds that opinion. I take it his post is really about the idea of tit-for-tat retaliation being kind of a losing proposition, ultimately
it is also ignorance, dehumanization comes not just from their leadership, but ours too you don't have to go far in our news to make big bad scary images of these foreign muslims who they feel are barely human, just likwith the native americans, or the jews in ww2, create a common enemy and feed it and the idiots will follow don't forget, the otherside in afghan the taliban and isis are doing the same thing...painting the west as some force as in our people wanting to change them andcontrol them and it works....the cycle is so advantageous for these corrupt powers, thats why presidents start wars when things are bad be it netanyahu, trump, bush or whoever....they win, the populace suffers evereywhere the grift continues....history doesnt repeat itself, but it rhymes
Locations to get the IDs have been cut back by the republican controlled legislature. Especially in areas that have more poorer and more minorities. And you are asking why Democrats are not prioritizing fixing this? Which party do you think controls all of the statewide positions (including Secretary of State, the Governor-appointed position that controls elections) and controls the Texas legislature?
They're not letting Americans through the gate but somehow they were able to evacuate 600 in the past 24 hours. Has Dans dumbass ever thought maybe Biden is extracting Americans through helicopter and/or other ways and doesnt want to lay out our plans to the world. Its mind blowing how fkin dangerous twitter is nowadays. This sort of sentiment from elected officials is disgusting in the middle of a evacuation. Youre a member of congress im sure you can connect anyone stranded to the proper channels. Creating artificial hysteria on unverified reports is why this country is ****ed
Yeah, Democrats should prioritize getting a legal voter ID into the hands of every eligible voter. Either by fixing the system, or by using their resources to help people obtain an ID despite an imperfect system that throws up all sorts of barriers for poor people. Millions of eligible voters not having a proper ID should be considered unacceptable. Texas has seven forms of acceptable voter ID. If getting a state ID is too difficult, they can also apply for a US citizenship certificate.
Voter ID laws arent even a thing no more. Manchin has negotiated with Klobuchar that whatever voting rights bills comes next it will include some sort of voter id requirements. Democrats for the msot part on the federal level agree on voter ids to an extent. They would happily trade in voter ids for expanded mail in voting.
I guess I am missing the actual "how" this would all happen. If Democrats (in significant minority in legislature, and have no statewide position in the state government) proposed that every Texas citizen gets a state ID delivered to them, how would they get delivered? And how would they get that passed? Republicans in the legislature would not support that. Nor would abbott and the rest of the republicans in state-wide offices. The republicans are the ones that actively made it harder to get state IDs and to vote. For example, republicans just passed a bill that requires a direct family member to transport someone to get registered to vote. And republicans closed DPS offices in rural and areas where minorities are heavily concentrated where people could get IDs. And if you look Senate Bill 7, republicans proposed closing voting locations in the largest counties (like Harris) with heaviest Democrat voters. So what are you suggesting Democrat legislators do... leave the state? On-line applications for state IDs might help those with mobility or accessibility challenges, except for those that don't have access to computers. And republicans wouldn't support that anyway. So... you keep pinning this on Democrats. What would you suggest Democrats do?
Wait, the easy way to get a voter ID is to get a citizenship certificate? Here's how someone applies for that: Where is that easy?
I’m not pinning it on Democrats. You seem to be arguing that Republicans are the ones making it hard for voters to get an ID, so therefore they are responsible for fixing that. I am saying it makes no difference who is responsible for it. It’s in the Democrat’s interests for all eligible voters to have a voter ID, so why depend on Republicans to make that happen? If lack of access can’t be addressed at the government level because of Republican obstructionism, then it will need to be a large grassroots effort to assist these people in getting IDs. Is there a reason for that not to happen?
You’re right, not a smart suggestion. I didn’t note the significant costs and time required for processing such an application.
Also Rep. Crenshaw should know that they are telling Americans not to come to the airport because of the strong possibility of another suicide bombing. For someone who served in combat he should know how important it is to protect civilians.
https://apnews.com/article/afghanistan-kabul-us-taliban-9da4da11b5c8d00445b57aee297bd270 KABUL, Afghanistan (AP) — The Taliban said that a U.S. airstrike targeted a suicide bomber in a vehicle Sunday who wanted to attack the Kabul international airport amid the American military’s evacuation there.
https://www.kansascity.com/opinion/readers-opinion/guest-commentary/article253641358.html What we are seeing in Afghanistan right now shouldn’t shock you. It only seems that way because our institutions are steeped in systematic dishonesty. It doesn’t require a dissertation to explain what you’re seeing. Just two sentences. One: For 20 years, politicians, elites and D.C. military leaders lied to us about Afghanistan. Two: What happened last week was inevitable, and anyone saying differently is still lying to you. I know because I was there. Twice. On special operations task forces. I learned Pashto as a U.S. Marine captain and spoke to everyone I could there: everyday people, elites, allies and yes, even the Taliban. The truth is that the Afghan National Security Forces was a jobs program for Afghans, propped up by U.S. taxpayer dollars — a military jobs program populated by nonmilitary people or “paper” forces (that didn’t really exist) and a bevy of elites grabbing what they could when they could.
at the end of this, Congress should do their job and investigate wth happen with the exit. Why were special visa not issued way ahead of time? Why did we have so many Americans civilian there still since the withdrawal started. Why did the Afghan military just melted away and why didn’t we anticipate? … 18m (since March 2020) should have been plenty of times to exit much more smoothly.
